Just watched the 92 St Y conversation with creatives and Groff and interestingly, Groff just talked about “the person who plays Bobby next.” I honestly just assumed they’d close the show after he leaves. He essentially is the show. Thoughts about anyone who can do it like he’s doing it?

Matt Magnusson played Bobby Darin for the Bryant Park performance today - it was interesting to see someone other than Jonathan do it! I stumbled on that because I wanted to see Gracie Lawrence's beautiful rendition of "Who's Sorry Now?" as a tribute to Connie Francis. Lawrence always sounds great but it had a little extra emotion today at Bryant Park (and presumably at the show tonight, too).

At the show on Thursday Groff did a curtain call speech about Connie Francis and Gracie Lawrence sang “Where the boys are”.

Busy day on Broadway today... anyone here catching Sarah Hyland's debut as Connie Francis tonight?

Last Thursday (March 12), Dodd Darin, the son of Bobby Darin and Sandra Dee, finally made it to New York and caught ''Just in Time'' with his wife and daughters.
At the moving curtain call, he hugged Groff and said: ''This was beautiful. I never thought I'd live to see my dad remembered and appreciated like this.''

I wouldn’t be shocked if he comes back to close it, but who knows. He’s a producer on it, but it’s a ton of work, so he might crash after leaving.

Groff is also booked for As You Like It in the UK from late summer until early November- it’s an open question as of now whether Just in Time will still be running when he returns.

Seems like many of the JIT hardcore fans are unwell. They’ve made it a part of their identity, are crying and saying they think about the show everyday. We ain’t talking just teens either. Older folks too. I’m sure Groff is happy to get a break from all that.

I was one of the people at tonight‘s show, but I definitely didn’t pay those prices. They give out bracelets as people entered, and the enthusiasm and energy were high throughout. Lots of standing ovations and long moments of applause. Speeches at the end, focused on how this was a once in a lifetime performance, and it was. He didn’t win the Tony, but this is one of those performances that will live on. The man is selling tickets, singing, dancing, and leaving it all out there. Bravo to him because not many can do that today.

Kind of wild how Groff gained that following despite having no social media presence and (I believe) never doing the stage door during his run.

right after his interview on Amy Poehler’s podcast, my sister, who doesn’t follow theater or anything, messaged me and said “I want to be friends with him so bad!” He’s charming as hell and seems 100% genuine.. and not bad to look at either.

There are a lot of mentally unwell middle aged women. Both Adam Driver in 2024, and Keanu Reeves this past year, had to deal with mentally unstable women who kept showning up when they had theatre performances in NYC.

What Kad said, and also- while it is true there is a contingent of truly devoted fans that border on the obsessive re Groff/this show, TO BE FAIR i am unfamiliar with any stories about any going overboard and being inappropriate, and in this show, Groff is actually in the audience dancing with them, so, you know, credit where non psychotic credit is due.

The nature of the show almost guarantees that whoever is playing Bobby is going to come in with his own obsessed fan base. That certainly is the case with the first two replacements. As annoying as it is, I think the producers are counting on those “obsessed middle aged women” to keep the show on a front burner for awhile. I’m curious to see how it all plays out. Morrison can dance circles around both Groff and Jordan, who are both better vocally. And how long will it be before Darren Criss steps up to the plate? The show has the potential to play for awhile, as long as they can continue to bring in a star with a built in crazy fan base and the talent to sing that songbook.

They remind me of the NKOTB fanbase. Women of a certain age obsessed with Groff and every aspect of the show. I’ve seen their posts and some of it is unhinged. They want to be picked to dance, try to get his attention, are crushed if he doesn’t pick them and elated if he does. They talk about going into debt for repeated viewings and for merch and BCEFA items. They get jealous of others at times. Hey, if it makes them happy it’s all good but it just seems really sad and hollow to me. That being said, it does seem like there’s a good number of grounded fan who have created a nice community for each other.

I'd pay $25K to get to hug the buyer of Jonathan's hat lol. Well, maybe not quite that much.

So do you think these women went from being "rock/pop" groupies in their younger days to the next step in their career and became "obsessed middle-aged women" at Broadway show. Just teasing!! I agree with you 100%, this show will last for a while as long as they can continue to bring in people like Morrison, Jordan and maybe Criss.

Should’ve said this yesterday when I posted about attending, but it was also Sarah Hyland’s final performance and was so just so absolutely adequate. No real depth or emotion to her voice and minimally to her performance. So very eh. I know she sells tickets because of Modern Family, but I’d pass on seeing her again.
