Yes but I feel like you’re not listening to us? It is true that cheap standing ovations are now ubiquitous in the west end but what I’m saying is that Evita was not a cheap standing ovation, it was different. Why do you think Evita is a cheap standing ovation like every other west end or broadway show?
Did you see Jordan’s post? “I have very rarely in my life felt a theater shake the way it did during curtain call each time I saw this one”.
Jordan and I are not some wicked Stan fan girls who only started going to the theatre recently and are impressed with standing ovations. Hell, I myself don’t like that everyone stands for everything and I’m sure I’ve complained about it here before too.
But that isn’t what is going on here.
…
The way it’s been described is that the music isn’t playing them off so the cast is just standing there and the audience is stuck there just clapping like seals for many minutes
I just wanted to add my two cents since no one seems to have addressed it. The criticism was made, why is Juan Peron shirtless during "A New Argentina"? Isn't this likely a wink to the idea of the descamisados--the shirtless ones--and the act even of Peron to take off his coat in public appearances to seem aligned with them? (Many men stripped their shirts off as a form of visual protest when Peron was for a short time arrested prior to his winning the presidency.) But by making it a "sexy man shirtless" thing, pointing out the totally performative/maniuplative nature of the gesture?

This is absolutely correct and it’s very obvious the production wants that to happen. Like when theaters don’t open the doors until 15 minutes until the listed start time of the show, just to get the visuals and video/photo of super long lines wrapped around 2 city blocks to get people hyped. It’s a free publicity stunt.

I follow one of the investors on Facebook, and he says they are aiming for a 2027 Broadway transfer.
He also confirmed that Sunset is done, no tour, no LA run, no proshot. (If I knew how to post images here, I would).

The internet is full of reviews of people who didn't understand the story at all. When I went, I heard people expressing the same things at intermission and afterwards. They had no clue. Which is bad. The only people who understood the story were the ones that already knew the show or the movie. During the show, these people were indeed hollering, screaming and clapping over the lyrics. It just didn't interest them. It seems like there is a generation of people that is frantically taking part in hypes, without actually caring about it. Without any interest in knowing what it's actually about. Being part of the hype and paying money is apparently enough for them. And when it's bad, they just scream for as long and as hard until it is good in their minds.
I also think that with all the clips out there, where people can see the actual staging, direction, that the words don't match the scenes, the terrible directorial choices, messing up the dynamics, status of the characters, the reviews with many examples, etc, people can form a pretty good opinion of the show. Personally, the constant hollering and screaming didn't trick me into thinking that they were into it. They were clearly out of it.
One additional thought regarding a potential Broadway transfer, since others are speculating: It’s possible they are considering the St. James Theatre as the best option, but are choosing to stay quiet in case “Queen of Versailles” doesn’t perform well.
I’ve just finished listening to a full live audio recording of this show and the audience was very receptive but there wasn’t any of the hooting and hollering that people are claiming was going on…maybe the audience on this night was well behaved?
I was able to hear every lyric sung and every note played, and if I were hearing this show for the first time based on this recording alone I wouldn’t have a problem following the storyline.
This cast though was on fire and that newly released recording of “Rainbow High” doesn’t do justice to how it sounded on stage, it was great!
Rachel was firing on all cylinders…her “Buenos Aires” was thrilling.
I hope this transfers here because they can take all of my money!

I guess Jamie really wants the Lyric and is waiting

Did he confirm they recorded more than 10 tracks for the album?

If that investor is Sean Nyberg, he has a lengthy post on Facebook with that information and many many thoughts.

Lengthy and rather insufferable.
Wow, he could have got the message across in a quarter of the words.
Yeah I’m not sure what’s with the criticism of audiences screaming over the performers. I went on a Friday night, the evening before the final performance when no doubt awfully behaved show stans show up and become a nuisance… and the audience was very receptive but not at all disruptive. Maybe I just got lucky and it wasn’t happening my performance, but it’s much more likely to happen at the third-to-last performance than any other earlier ones.

Post can be found here. The first half was a fine read - but the fourteen or fifteen paragraphs (starting with “Sit down for this one”) obsessing over Rachel Zegler are obnoxious.
We get it. You love the leading lady of the show you invested in. You don’t need to overdo it, nor bring up the Snow White of it all. Her performance as Evita speaks for itself.

His post comes across as deeply unprofessional.
If I was producing a show, I would t want investors displaying dirty laundry publicly like that.
Alright well I suppose I understand that the link had to be removed but I’ll repeat again, now that I’ve seen the production (on tape at least) I didn’t like it one bit. I love the show dearly and know it very well, and maybe the Prince version is irreplaceable in my mind but I think without that affection I’d probably still think something was off about this one.
Rachel is disappointingly in head voice for most vocal stuff that Patti (or almost anyone else) would have done in chest, there’s too much movement across the entire show which will only increase the non-understanding of the plot, and I can entirely understand the reasons behind the Lloyd/Webber falling out. “E! V! I-T-A!” chanted over and over is just 🤯
Does anyone know if Tim Rice shared his views on the production?

You didn’t see the show live in the theatre, your opinion is wrong.
She sounded incredible, the best I’ve ever heard sing that role.
now that I’ve seen the production (on tape at least)
You didn't see it.

Well I got as much as one can from a bootleg, and it looks like one total misfire. Like the kids in juvie are running through their America’s Got Talent routines for when they’re finally out.

Spouting nonsense again, I see.

Oops. Sorry. Tape is an industry term for video.
