Annie seems like it's the most probable, with Katie leaving. Has Katie set a departure date yet?
There's no part for her in NICE WORK - too young for the mother, and couldn't sing Kaye's part. And I feel like she might not be willing to step into Chicago as the 20th Mama Morton...

PIPPIN? As Berthe? Maybe Andrea Martin committed to another show or a film/TV project that she couldn't get out of?

Pippin would be smart. I've said from day one that show won't survive without a name.

She says it's already in production and she'll be "stepping in" so it's pretty obvious it's ANNIE.

I'll be honest, when I first read it I took as "in rehearsals" type of "in production". Why wouldn't she say "it's already running" or "already on Broadway".

Cinderella will be closed by then, and I wouldn't be surprised if Annie was too.

If she does end up replacing Katie, I will be very excited. I've always regarded her as a brilliant comedic actress when she stole all of her scenes in 40-Year-Old Virgin. Even if she isn't a trained vocalist, she could still hit that role out of the park, as the comedy is enough to carry it. She was the only reason I watched two episodes of Glee before I couldn't stand it anymore.

How can you say, after 2 weeks of previews, Cinderella will be closed by the Summer? You don't believe in the show's run.. and you're doing a good job reminding us on every thread which mentions the show

I agree with many that it's likely CHICAGO, but oh how I wish it would be Miss Hannigan instead! She'd be great (but of course, we thought Finneran was perfect casting at the time). The fact is, I don't think ANNIE is going last until the summer unless they start advertising Lynch's appearance fairly soon...

I assume if it is Annie they are working at contracts now and an announcement is soon...

Maybe she and Andy Richter could do a Broadway ratch-up of THE REAL LIVE BRADY BUNCH.

She could do a limited run as Donna in MAMMA MIA.

Drood maybe?
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

I think her singing voice is too low to belt out the Hannigan parts. I really doubt that's it.

DROOD will be looooooooong gone by then, Capn.

Again, Mamma Mia seems like a good fit for her....

Perhaps she's in talks to cover for Alan Cumming in MACBETH when he takes vacation.

MAME revival: Gwyneth Paltrow as Mame, Jane Lynch as Vera.

I can definitely see her the best in Pippin- not that Lynch isn't a fantastic actress, but she's a fantastic "character actress" in the non-technical definition of the word. While she lacks the versatility of a "technical character actor" like Streep or the two Hoffmans, if there's a "Jane Lynch Type" character with palpable warmth and strength under a veneer of constant, biting sarcasm and cynicism, you've gotta get Jane Lynch, because no one else can do it like her.
Her Berthe would be fantastic, although she's about ten years too young for it technically.

The age of the actress playing Berthe has never really mattered. Many actresses playing her have been younger than the 66 years the character admits to be, but play her as if she were much older. In fact, I think the lyric should change to 86. 66 doesn't seem as old as it did when I first saw Irene Ryan in the role back in the stone age.
Regardless, the timing and circumstances aren't right for Jane Lynch and Pippin. Andrea Martin has never received the kind of notices she enjoyed in Boston for her take on Berthe. She's certainly not planning her exit before opening night on Broadway.
It'll be Jane Lynch dripping with little girls in Annie.

Hasn't Martin done very specific training for some exceptional physical work in Pippin?
