Assuming most contracts are up in November (including the leads), it seems on par. It’s also possible he could be taking a brief sabbatical to star in this 7 week run and then go back

I haven't heard anything about the Jack Thorne version coming back to Broadway yet. So for now, the Mays version is the only one we'll have this holiday season.
Just like the recent Jack Thorne version, this is will be considered a new play, not a revival, because it’s a new adaptation.
I remember that the Thorne/Warchus production was hoping to return, but wasn’t sure if those plans were still on. It theoretically could’ve come back for Christmas 2021, but it didn’t. I don’t believe there’s been any public indication that they’re still hoping to return. It would be unfortunate, I think, if there were two version at the same time on Broadway.
I saw Patrick Stewart in a one-person adaptation of A Christmas Carol back in the 90s and it was wonderful. Having seen Mays in I Am My Own Wife and A Gentleman's Guide..., I have no doubt he will be just as good if not better in this new adaption of the classic. I will be excited to see this show over the holidays!
Love Mays but I once again question the financial viability here, with so many plays opening this fall and last season’s poor play attendance. The 2019 Xmas Carol did not do gangbusters at the box office. But I suppose running costs will be very low and there may be physical production elements already in existence.
I'd say the Warchus/Thorne production sold reasonably well for a play without stars, but with only an 8 week run (and tepid sales during previews), it's hard to know if that was enough.
Assuming this production's ticket sales will come from more-or-less the same target audience, it's POSSIBLE that they could match the sales of the 2019 production - in which case, with a much lower running cost and capitalization, I could imagine a road to recoupement for them.
But yes, in general, I feel the same way I do about 95% of shows that come to Broadway, which is: I'm glad it's coming, and I'm glad it's not my money at stake!
I recall in Dec 2021 the Thorne/Warchus production did the tour in the west coast (SF/LA/LV?). I was hoping they'd go back to Broadway especially after it won all the Tony awards it was nominated for.
Regardless, I'm excited to see Jefferson Mays in this one-man production. I watched it back in Dec 2020 from my couch and enjoyed it. I'm a fan of Michael Arden as a director too.
I was hoping it would be in a more intimate space like the Booth or Circle in the Square but it's all about timing.
Since this is a one-man play, hopefully Jefferson won't test positive the week of Christmas.
I am really looking forward to this. I have never sen Mr. Mays live onstage and am excited to see him in this. My understanding is that "A Sherlock Carol" may return this year so looking forward to seeing both.
Miss Cracker (Rupaul's Drag Race) is doing "Who's Christmas" in London this year. Wish they could get a notable drag queen and do it off-Broadway this year. Feel like that would sell.

I am assuming you are talking about "Who's Holiday" that Lesli Margherita did over at The Westside. I would love to see that again with her in it. It was originally supposed to run at New World Stages with Jennifer Simard before they ran into the problems with the estate. I would love to see Jennifer do it also.
Yes, I knew the name was wrong, whoops. But yes, I think it running off-Broadway and plugging in a well known Broadway person or a well known Drag Queen, that would sell so well Nov-Jan
