"Remember that terrible teen show that seems cursed? It ended 10 years ago? Remember that teacher guy?"
Meh.

Pedro? Pascal?"
I guess you missed the “mom & dad” memo, mate.

I know they are besties but didnt know he had the time to do Broadway right now.
Also, I heard that it was Steve Carrell in this production, but Pascal is way more interesting to me.

Pascal has never been rumored as being part of that production. (It’s also been nearly a year since the rumor of a Paulson-led revival first appeared and there’s been no news or updates on it since, so it’s certainly an open question of whether it’s still happening).

Sweaty Oracle said months ago that Carell had dropped out of the production but at the time it was still planning to go ahead at Circle in the Square with Paulson. No updates since then from him.

I think the Producers would be crazy to close this show without a replacement. There are plenty of singing actors out there with star quality. The weekly nut can't be that high as this is not a big show.
Jonothan Groff is indeed a great performer and does a star turn as Bobby Darrin. He is incredibly impressive in the role but outside of New York City , many people do not know his name. A Matt Morrison or Jeremy Jordon or even someone without a name with star quality (Jess LoPetro-spelling could be wrong) could keep this show going. I think the songs Mack the Knife and Splash Splash and others are making this a crowd pleaser as well as Groff
Love Jonothan Groff but he is replaceable. I think it's the word of mouth on Groff that keeps it so popular--- not the name. There are many male finalists from the Voice who may even be bigger household names.
Matt Morrison is a great choice and I would revisit the show with him in it.

JESS LePROTTO!! Again, an extremely talented guy, but nobody outside of Broadway knows who he is. And Jess is now attached to the Broadway-aimed production of THE WANDERER.

I don't even know if Jeremy Jordan is big enough? He didn't blow up the box office for Flloyd Collins. They need someone like a Zac Efron or something who would be willing to do Broadway.

FLOYD COLLINS sold terribly (it was papering by the end), but it is about a guy dying in a cave...not the most sellable show.
Jeremy Jordan is a little overexposed. But isn't Matt Morrison the current rumor, or am I not keeping up? (tho I also, bizarrely, heard him rumored for Cal in Titanique.)

The latest rumor is that Morrison is doing Just in Time and will follow that run with another show.

Ever hear of a show called Hamilton? People know his name! Groff is a box office draw. Look at his grosses for the past year.

There are stars who are draws no matter what they appear in and then there are performers who are draws in specific shows.

This is true, and Groff is the former. Little Shop, Merrily We Roll Along and Just In Time are very different shows and he is the link to their box-office success.

So you don't think that Daniel Radcliffe played a part in Merrily's box office success? Even LSOH has continued to be a draw regardless of who is in it (as long as it's a recognizable name).

I do, as did the show's storied history and Sondheim's death one year before it opened at NYTW. But JG is the main reason this production was the show's charm.

Groff being in it to begin with gave it a clout it would not have had without him. It's in a much smaller theatre and has been able to hang on to much of that clout without him, but it wouldn't have had it to begin with had he not been the original star.

Matthew is charming, but I'm really curious to see if he can actually sell this show long term if he's the choice. People are also suggesting Corbin Bleu who has proven very popular on Broadway.

Bleu is the better choice, IMO.

I would absolutely give this show another shot if Bleu was the new lead. (Oddly, this will be his second time as a replacement in a show at the Circle, after Godspell). I don’t need another bland white-boy crooner
