People are definitely willing to spend money on Kit Connor. He donated a signed rugby ball to raise money for medical aid in Palestine a couple of months back and it was one of the items that went for the highest amount, around $7,000. He's a Gen Z darling and a lot of the gays also love him.

Ha. This made me laugh, because it’s true. I am Gen Z, nearing mid-twenties, have a corporate job, and give most of my discretionary spending $$ to experiences like broadway/theatre.
As I’ve stated here, I am the exact target audience for this show. Big fan of both Kit and Rachel, although it’s moreso Rachel for me. Jack Antonoff intriguing too, but wouldn't make me buy a ticket on that alone. Lastly, I have never actually seen a production of Romeo and Juliet… now you can all laugh :)
P.S. thank you Taffy & others for the ticket updates!

It's all of their names combined really and yes, I was obviously not talking about the Gen Z of the 90s, more like the privileged 13 year olds whose parents can afford such things. Common sense applies.
Anyways, key art looks great and I hope it's a huge success.

My younger daughter, approaching her mid-20s, is in the same boat. She works hard, has a reasonably well-paying job for someone her age, splurges on things like trips to New York City, is a fan of Connor and Zegler, loves Heartstopper, likes Jack Antonoff enough that she plans on catching his band on tour (albeit from the free seats above the Greek Theatre in Berkeley).
I have joked to her, and written here, that she is the target market for this show. But she’s obviously not the only one. While I am sure there will be teenagers at the performances with tickets bought or gifted by rich parents, there will also be people like my daughter - finding a space to work at her job during her trip and catching the show on a Saturday night.
Just a weird side note: the two seating charts don't match up (between telecharge and B'wayDirect) And some prices are a tad cheaper - some are more expensive. Just be sure to compare! The tix I bought didn't even show up on BD as available.
Also: I haven't paid much attention to this before...well, today. I didn't recognize Kit's name for whatever reason. But now? Just grabbed some $125 tix. (telecharge) I daresay, he might be better than her. Which means? A discount code is coming for the rest of you to use. (always happens after my purhcase!)
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
Looks like tickets are now on sale for the last row for $120 a piece. My gut is telling me to wait and see if they are doing 30u30, rush or standing room
FYI, on Sunday, October 27 at 3p, seats in row H of the 400s are $95.75 through Broadway Direct, including fees. They jacked up the prices until December, so that day in October is literally the only day with under $100 seats available for the first 2+ months of the run.
Some of the doublings sort of make thematic sense, but the one that I'm most puzzled by is having one person play both Capulet and Lady Capulet. In trying to get a sense of how this show will play I can't tell if that means they're going to combine the two characters' lines into one role, or if they're going to do some schtick where the actor holds up a mustache on a stick to play Capulet and then removes it for the Lady Capulet lines.
Very on brand with its modern and cool messaging for GenZ audiences. However, they seem to be all begging for a filmed version online so let's hope their parents can afford it ;)
Oh, and Gabby Beans is a star so this casting is *chefs kiss*
I think that the mass of comments begging for a filmed version speaks to the reach of the R+J promo efforts.
It's reaching its intended audience of *very online* young people. But likely the majority of them don't live in close proximity to NYC or don't have financial accessibility to make the trip. Hence, asking for a proshot.
I'm sure any of the young fans who can swing the trip in any way possible will do so.
The R+J instagram account already has nearly 75k followers, with only 23 posts that are mostly all recycled content from the same day.
This is notable if you compare to the Outsiders (78k followers, 310 posts) with its growing/intense fanbase and Great Gatsby (100k followers, 532 posts) with its prominent social media strategy.
I saw a production Summer 2022 that did a similar thing to streamline roles with an actress playing the role of Juliet's mother, but also doing the Father's lines.
That production also had a male actor playing the Nurse, and camping it up quite a bit to heighten the comedy of the role. I don't know that that part was entirely successful, but for the parents one actress worked fine.
For myself, having limited time in one week to see new shows, nothing in this announcement makes me choose this over something else. Nothing like the other week's announcement of Adam Driver in a play where I instantly bought a ticket.
