The Idina mention has indeed been in there at least since John's run.
I believe they will generally review any remarkable or big-name replacements. John was reviewed by probably a dozen major publications (all raves). Maybe they reviewed Taye because he's a bit of name on television?
Maybe I'm naive but I think there will be at least one more. As others have mentioned, they recouped long along thanks to NPH, and I think I remember someone here saying their nut is in the low 300s so they're at least paying the bills.

I read 317K plus royalty rights for the creators, so I don't see why suddenly all the gloom and doom from"concerned" fans.
The reality is that since Michael C. Hall every subsequent Hedwig's box office has declined, JCM, Darren and now Taye; it's not rocket science.

About your inability to read anything I write with any sense of humor? I agree!
"Those not in the cult need not give any opinion."
If she was on BWW, sure. But lots of people on here going to see it and not liking Taye aren't really disproven by some random person we know nothing about who "loved" it. I can get that from following Hedwig on social media and just reading the positive stuff they retweet, too. Here you go, the day I saw Taye, three people walking out ahead of me, all older African-American women who clearly came to see Taye, were like "Could you make any sense out of that ending? I don't know what that was supposed to be all about," etc. So there's another non-cult anecdote for you.
If you want to keep looking for some trajectory into how if you don't know the show, and never saw anyone better, you might actually like Taye, that's fine. But I was able to enjoy Darren after seeing JCM 8X, so I don't think I lack objectivity, either. I enjoyed him just fine. And I wouldn't spend money just to dislike Taye. I'd much prefer to say he was good... if that were true.
Well I saw the show tonight on a whim - friend had tickets.
i have to say that Taye was doing well and then he brought out emotions in me that I had never felt with the show before: I laughed during WLTR. Laughed loudly. The poor guy did NOT remember the words and just made up his own damn song

He had the right words...but they weren't in the right order most of the time? One that stuck out to me was "and there's no mystical...nothing in the sky but air."
he he had the first few lines right and then something dropped. He really was doing fairly well all show until that moment.
My friend just texted me - he also sang something along the lines of "and now your feet are on the ground and if you hear some sweet sound, all the lost things can be found."
That is just so strange. It makes me wonder if he just doesn't have an emotional connection to the material, which is somehow making it difficult for him to remember the lines/lyrics. I hope Stephen Trask doesn't get wind of the fact that TD is rewriting his lyrics
I saw the show today. This was my second time seeing the show after seeing Neil Patrick Harris last year. Aye Diggs is delivering a pretty rough and uneven performance IMO. I still enjoyed the show, but I did not find him to be particularly engaging, and a lot of the jokes fell flat. The last two songs were GREAT though, so at least he ended the show on a high note. I still think that this show has one of the best sound and lighting designs on Broadway.

We saw it last night. I thought he was brilliant, particularly after expecting much worse after reading this entire thread. It was easily the most enthusiastic crowd of all 3 Hedwigs that we've seen. From Hedwig's Lament to the finale was astounding. A fantastic night at the theatre.
We saw the matinee on Sunday. Our first matinee and first time with Taye. And we were disappointed with his performance. Not his singing, that was great, but his "dancing" seemed a whole lot more like sleepwalking to us. And the blown lines STILL, after 2 months?
Lots of audience interaction near us, I thought he'd lick my glasses (was in Row B, on the aisle), but he reached in to the row to get someone else's. And a bad sound cue on the final "open the door to hear Tommy", when Tommy went silent a solid 2 seconds before the door slammed shut.
Rebecca Naomi Jones was great, first time we've seen her. I thought she was too pretty as Itzhak, but she played the role extraordinarily.
I saw the show a few days ago and I thought he was fantastic, too. I like his voice on the songs, expecially the Origin of Love, Exquisite Corpse, and Sugar Daddy. He was really good with the audience and everyone enjoyed it around me in the balcony. It was nice to hear the songs in context and I really enjoyed the humor and sadness. Exquisite Corpse was surreal and is now my new favorite song from the show. Rebecca was magnificent in the role and I loved when she finally got the belt it out.
