I remember in an interview, LBB said that probably the only time they would release the MTV taping on DVD was if the show closes in NY. Do you think now, that the show is closing they will release it on DVD?
Probably not since the show is embarking on tour and they wouldn't want a DVD of the show to negatively impact ticket sales.
I swear, this has been the worst week of news in terms of theater for me. First Xanadu, then [tos], now this. I guess I can just be glad that I got to see it once with the original cast and again with Bailey in the role, plus I got to see [tos] once and Xanadu twice (once onstage even) so I should just be looking on the sunny side since I don't often go to New York to see shows and all of I've seen these three numerous times since early Spring, but still. Ouch. I'm just glad that Blonde surely will live on in regional theater. I'm sure the same can be said for Xanadu and I truly hope somehow [tos] as well.
*weeps*
That's it. No more NYC for me for awhile. I swear, I already have just normal bad karma, and now I'm afraid I'm spreading it on Broadway.
Actually, this is one show I don't want to see close because I know it is popular, but it is not a favorite of mine.
I am sure with the TV run, and reality TV show, not to mention the actual musical, that the show would've recouped. I mean maybe the show flopped, but the franchise couldn't have. No way.
Noooooooooooooo....I haven't got a copy of the airing on DVD...living in Norway I will not get to see the show...can anyone help me..PM me, please!!!!
Me and WickedBoy was talking about this only the other day, i know someone who is very involved in the UK transfer of the show and i found out that after a chance to move the show to a smaller nederlander theatre fell through that they decided the show would close January. The UK would get the sets from Broadway then (wooh wooh to us)
I have to say im kinda surprised its been pushed forward (unless they extend which would not surprise me at all) but on the other hand, the US and UK financial climates are in a dangerous state at the moment and the 1st thing people clamp down on when the economy is bad is entertainment.
LB and Xanadu appear to have made smart decisions and go out before the s**t really hits the fan, i can bet you a million pounds (or dollars if you like lol) that at least 2 more shows will do the same very soon
On another note, LB was very close to recouping, they were confident that by January 4th the show would have made its money back, so it will be interesting to see the figures at the end of the year.
Anywho....BIG HUGS to all my fellow LB fans (especially AllMyLife), its had a very good run and the tour will allow the show to live on...and hoorah its coming to the UK
Oh and ouch for Bailey who wins the reality show and now joins the unemployment line whilst the ones who didn't win enjoy a succesful national tour
>LB was very close to recouping<
Not to be a downer, but I doubt whether that is true.
Well like i said that's coming from the person who is heavily involved in moving the show to the UK, and they wouldn't have any reason to lie
Unless he wants to paint a rosier picture than reality. The show had some very good weeks, but it also had many weeks where it performed around breakeven and other weeks with big losses. At the reported $10 million capitalization cost, and a run of a year and a half, I'd guess its recoupment to be in the 50-60% range.
Its not like he has a burning love for the show, hes just involved with the company bringing it to the UK
Is there a possibility that they might be testing the waters, so to speak, by announcing the closing...seeing how tickets sell and if they do well, extend to the January 4th date?
Either way, its a shame but at least LB had a good enough run and achieved what it set out to do; have fun and introduce younger fans to Broadway.
I'm really looking forward to the show coming to the West End, and I'm liking the news of getting the Broadway sets! Guess that means the show will be going into a pretty large Theatre (there have been debates for a while on the West End board).
I hope at some point they do release a DVD, obviously no time soon so it doesn't effect the Tour/West End productions, but it would be nice. Maybe the film concept will follow through too? Personally, I would rather not see the Broadway cast in it (because we've already got a filmed version of their portrayal) and see some new interpretations. Kristen Bell anybody?
If We Will Rock You would bugger off out of the Dominion then that would be perfect for LB UK

So does this mean that LB was officially (not recouping) a flop?
I know that if opinion were the measure that would not be the case, but using the generally accepted definition (show=flop if it did not recoup the original investment), is it safe to say that LB is a flop?
I guess it is if it hasn't recouped, we wont know for sure till the figures come out
"Why this kids have to go and on and on about i'll never know!"
Yes, we get it. You think we're weird because we're going "on and on" about a show's closing. You think it's funny. Good for you. Why you go on and on about it, I'll never know. It beats me why people post in threads if they have nothing worthwhile to contribute.
As for Legally Blonde, I am hoping to catch the tour sometime soon. First [tos] and Xanadu, now Legally Blonde all within 3 weeks of each other.
Oh you must let me known what you think of the tour
Yes, I am looking forward to it with the changes they are making (like in the opening number - no sorority house and no staircase). Also hoping to catch either Lauren or Rhiannon as Elle, although I think Becky Gulsvig is extremely talented.
Those changes are a bit annoying grrrrr
Im glad London is getting the NY sets, i think a scaled down version would bug me a little
I don't know if you caught this, but someone posted a video on "that site" of the opening of Legally Blonde up until right before they start singing. It seems as if the sorority girls are just surrounding each other in the opening scene. I don't know how it is staged after that.
Oh i must go and have a quick look

Well this is a damn shame.
How do you know for sure that the sets and pieces are going to the West End production? I would think they'd go to the tour production. Why not?
The tour is open on the road and it will be far from the first time sets have crossed the Atlantic either way.
