I saw Bryce this afternoon and I thought he did a fantastic job. For those of you that don't know, his hair is longer and straight (about to chin length) and so that made him look a LOT like Luke Wilson (not a bad thing). He was a little nervous at the beginning of "Chip on my Shoulder," I think, but he totally sold it at the end. And he was great in "Take it Like a Man." I think he forgot what he was supposed to be doing or where he was supposed to go a couple times, but it wasn't super noticeable. During "Chip on My Shoulder," though, Laura knocked the trash can over, so all the stuff he had been throwing out, they had to scramble and pick up while keeping up with the song.
There were a couple other little funny things I noticed, but overall, I thought Bryce did great. And he definitely seemed to be a big hit with the audience. Apparently Andy Karl is doing the matinee tomorrow, though, and Bryce is doing the evening show.
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.
I thought bryce was very good. I think he was a little quiet, but brought something to the role that neither Christian or Andy have brought yet. His voice was amazing in my mind, i almost cried at LB the song.
I'd love to hear more about Bryce, anyone else see him?
Hey ruprecht- caught Bryce tonight, and I thought he was so good. His "Take it Like a Man" especially was my favorite- I could really see/feel his Emmett falling for Elle, the way he looked at her, the 'almost goes in for a kiss, but not quite' at the end of the number, just everything about that number made me...swoon. His Emmett has this almost sarcastic, jaded side to him, which Bryce totally works, but his "Take it Like a Man" was just...le sigh. Loved it.
Blonde is having a show tomorrow Monday night (Wed matinee canceled this week, I believe it is), and Bryce will be Emmett again tomorrow night, for those who missed him this weekend and want to check it out.
I also really enjoyed Bryce, I loved his sarcastic spin on a lot of his lines, and he had a really fantastic voice. I was very, very impressed by him. He did look like Luke at points, but not so much that you thought of Luke while watching him. He definitely brought his own thing to the role.
But I definitely still think that Andy Karl is the best Emmett in that show.
And I don't know if anyone noticed this, but just a question? Why is Haven's Margot...really ghetto? I noticed that more than anything last night, she's shouting like "west side 'till you die" and other ridiculous things and saying a lot of her lines in a really affected "ghetto" voice. It was a little...weird.
Not really a fan of Haven's Margot. She's got a beautiful voice (I love getting to hear her sing on her little parts in Positive), but I'm not a fan of some of her acting choices.
awww- I have no clue what the "westside 'till you die" or some of her other ad-lib type choices are all about sometimes, but Haven is completely growing on me, I am actually finding her Margot funnier than I used to...although, not as funny as some other kids in the Palace find her, lol...and plus, she came up on the So Much Better along with the other Delta Nus last night! :)
I agree that I can't wait to see her Elle, it'll be very interesting, and again, I hope she's fabulous. Her voice is fantastic, she'll sing the score amazingly.
I'm just very curious about her choices for Margot, a lot of them feel like they don't work to me.
I don't usually post much on the boards but I'm always reading this thread out of interest. A friend gave me some tickets to last night's show and we both loved Bryce Ryness' performance so much I had to come post about it. I would never have thought it was only his second time playing the role. His singing was great and he had this really dry, deadpan sort of line delivery that added to his Emmett. Also, he had great chemistry with LBB. He was awfully easy on the eyes, too - when he stepped out in the dress suit he looked so dashing. A great performance!!
Also, I really liked Cara Cooper's Serena. In seeing discussion of Haven Burton's Margot, I'll chime in that I like her although not as much as Annaleigh Ashford. However, I love the quality of her voice and would be very interested in seeing her play Elle - is she definitely going on during LBB's vacation?
Which leads me to my final question: I've never done the rush line. What kind of valid student ID do they accept? I have my college ID but it has no validation stickers (and no expiration date). I also have valid IDs for theatre training centers and dance centers. Do they accept those? I figured you guys here would know. Thanks...
