Yeah this artwork is bad. I wish it was the musical.

I... do not know the play. Or that it was even a musical. I know almost nothing about it. Is this one I should do my research on before going in? I like going in each show not knowing much about it."
I don’t research shows either and don’t know much about this one aside from the general plot. But for an out of town ticket buyer, is a photo of a church and Leslie Odom Jr’s name enough to buy a ticket? I have doubts.
I can't imagine this runs through the holidays.

Probably not. Do we think Leslie Odom Jr's name known well enough outside the Broadway community to sell tickets with that artwork?

That looks like a movie poster I would see at the AMC and not an ad that will sell a Broadway show

Why does that poster look like a high schooler googled "pictures of churches", hit copy and paste, and did the send to back feature on powerpoint to put the text over it lol

Personally, I think Odom is a much stronger singer than actor, and had assumed this whole time that this was a musical revival. A real bummer.
When I first saw that artwork, I thought it might be a replication of the artwork for the original production, but it's nothing like it. I'm wondering if there is a small budget for this show because that artwork looks like it was produced on the cheap.

It’s giving me VHS title card vibes.

It might be worse than the Paradise Square lamppost.

That's what has kept me from buying a ticket for the holidays...I keep thinking "Will it even still be open by then?" I hope it will be, but just being cautious planning for five months from now.
For something that's opening up fairly soon, I've seen little to no advertisements or promo.
Also, looking at advanced sales... there are weekends where the entire mezzanine is completely unsold.
And it looks like people on Reddit are only now realizing this isn't the musical.
It looks like this team and its marketing crew have a long way to go. Anyone have their tickets?

If anyone is interested in learning more about the play before going in, it was filmed in 1963 with most of the original cast, with the title changed to “Gone Are The Days!” The full show is on Youtube

I'm hearing there might be problems with raising money...

Also, while not the musical, it takes place in church and there are scenes with the cast singing church hymnals.
They have been trying to revive this play for many years, there was an industry reading of it in 2002 with Whoopi Goldberg attached, she should join as a producer! https://playbill.com/article/whoopi-goldberg-ruby-dee-read-purlie-victorious-in-nyc-feb-11-com-103903

We watched this in our theater history class in school and it is the full Bway play in its entirety. It's also truly wow performances from Ruby Dee and Ossie Davis. You get the full experience watching this.

I hope this production isn't going to have the same fate as Room with Adrienne Warren....
The show appeared on Audience Rewards the other day with different options that involve redeeming a high number of points and a high price point for a show that doesn't seem to be a hot ticket. No one I talk to seems to be interested in this show. I'm not sure how much of a draw it is.

I think people just don't know it exists. Where is the marketing and advertising for this show? I wouldn't be surprised if there is a financial issue.

They need a power house voice for this part!
Oh, never mind...just realized it's the non musical version oops!
Don’t need a powerhouse voice for a non-singing part in a straight play.

I just caught my mistake and was fixing it while you were writing haha~
I just don't think there is demand for this. Even if they were advertising the crap out of it..he's not a name and the show isn't recognizable enough in it of itself that I just don't think any of it matters. This should have been done at an off-Broadway non-profit.
