A friend who was at the first previews said that yes she dropped a few lines and had to call for them but i have seen some of the greats do the same things during previews, she should not be judged on that. As for her performance, he said it was clearly she had first night nerves but said when she settles down in to the role she could be very good, though he said the production itself is not great.
I think she'd be fine in a terrible role and play.
I mean, didn't Cherry Jones forget her lines so bad the stage manager had to bring her the script? So calm down people. It happens.
Personally I feel like the years of being "out of commission" and basically a hot mess have caused people to mythologize her talents. People love to talk about what a fantastic actress she once was. It makes the antics that much more tragic. But let's get real. There is nothing in her filmography that suggests she would ever come close to the career of someone like a Jennifer Lawrence. Jennifer was slaying meaty roles of substance since Winter's Bone. Lindsay's biggest movie of note... Mean Girls was not a tremendously taxing role. She played a pretty benign, by the numbers "straight man," basically played herself reacting off the comedy of others. I think it is sad that she gave up on craft. She could have certainly grown and developed. But she also could have stayed rather average... which was really where she was when she stopped caring and went off the deep end. I don't hold out a lot of hope that this is any kind of come back... She is no Robert Downey Jr. Never was.

And yet no one was writing horrific, gossipy, scathing articles making fun of Bette Midler when she forgot lines left and right for the first week of I'LL EAT YOU LAST.
It's the girl's first major theatrical turn. And it's gossip like this that helped lead to her addiction problems in the first place.
I'm rooting for her. And I think anyone who isn't should take a long, hard look at themselves in the mirror.

^^Exactly! I'm not surprised that "journalists" are reporting on what they call a "disaster" of a first performance and further stating the theater was 1/2 empty, everyone wants to see her fail. However, they should get their facts straight before being inaccurate, was it a first performance, yes, was it a PREVIEW, yes! I've been in previews with sets that weren't completed, that's what sometimes happens with a preview. Not to mention other stage vets, Midler, Broderick, who were notorious for the same issues. This was not opening night, this was her first time setting foot onstage with a live audience, what could possibly be a more vulnerable position? I'm not a die hard Lindsay fan, but give the girl a break, let her settle in, I hope she knocks it out of the park on opening night! Furthermore, any critic reviewing a first preview is not a reputable critic to say the least.
Put me in the column of people who are mystified when anyone mentions about how talented Lohan once was. Where are these outstanding performances that showed such promise?
Watch The Parent Trap, Freaky Friday, Mean Girls, Prairie Home Companion, Chapter 27 and Georgia Rules.
She has charisma and innate talent. I think that's enough work to give her credit for being a real talent.

Wait, can RippedMan or anyone else who knows the story tell me about Cherry Jones forgetting her lines so badly that the stage manager had to bring her the script? Which show did that happen? Was it the first preview? I've never heard this...
Doubt. And nope, I think this was after she'd already won the Tony.
It happens. Sometimes your mind just goes blank. Especially if you're having first night/preview jitters.
Cherry Jones's is tied to a late developing epilepsy-like disorder (it may be a rare kind) for which she now takes medication. She spoke about the episode(s) in some detail at the time of MENAGERIE's opening. Any discussion of what happened to her doesn't fairly belong in this one, and doesn't quite fit in with "it happens to all actors at some time." Lee Grant notes that she went up in the last few performances of PRISONER OF SECOND AVENUE after a year on B'way.

There isn't one of those performances that rises above competent.

I also don't think it is accurate to blame the woman's addiction issues on bad press and gossips. If you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen. Becoming famous has a lot of disadvantages but everyone who gives it a shot knows what they are.
And it's gossip like this that helped lead to her addiction problems in the first place.
Helped lead? No. Her reaction to gossip of her own behavior and reputation may be related to perpetuating her addiction, but there were so many other factors (i.e. Dina) that LED her to the problem.
Excuse me while I ponder the comparison between The Divine Miss M and Lindsay Lohan.
No one is comparing Lindsay and Bette, you are inferring that to be cheeky! All anyone said was they both forgot lines in previews, no one is comparing their talents- Bette is incomparable, enough said.

Thank you, philly... Not comparing their level of talent at all. Just simply the scenario.

Any word on subsequent performances? I heard that Schiff was struggling as well.
I have first hand experience with pretty much the entire family (except Michael who was absent for quite some time). Dina pushed Lindsay every step of the way. Reliving her dreams as a failed Rockette. He made her attend parties and get her name out there not even allowing her down time in the summer. Same for Ali and Dakota
That much being said there comes a time when you need to take responsibility for yourself as an adult and change yourself. She has failed many times and I truly hope she can succeed. I just don't hold out so much hope

"Dialed Rockette?" Unfamiliar with what that is.

I do think Lindsay Lohan was a very talented actress once upon a time. In The Parent Trap, not only was her British accent flawless, but I actually thought Hallie and Annie were played by real twins. She gave both of them very different personalities convincingly. I thought she was that good, and she was only 12. That's just my opinion though.
I really wanted her to succeed, but Liz and Dick made me give up on her. So sad.

Congratulations, Lindsay. Success is still the best revenge!
"She's getting good reviews."

"Her acting is that of a not specially gifted schoolgirl. I do not blame her. At least she had a bash. At least she tried her very best. But she should never have been thus exposed. Acting on the West End is no joke."
"Casting such a starry theatre novice in a piece that mocks the entertainment industry’s obsession with big names can be construed as cynical or ironic. Either way, the results are a bit tame."
"Shock news: Lindsay Lohan can act a bit. No, it’s not quite the opening line we disaster-hungry hacks were sharpening our nibs for … And I did say “a bit”: at last night’s opening she needed a prompt once; waved her arms around too often; and was, no question, less assured than her co-stars Richard Schiff (Toby from The West Wing) and Nigel Lindsay."
Yea. Virtual RAVES!
