Liza book promotion chat — Page 6

I don't think Liza has "written a book". My guess is Michael F has just spewed out all the confidential dinner stories she has shared with him over the years. Fed them to two journalists who made a book out of it. In "Liza’s" voice. I'm unsure if she is even aware of its contents.

Don’t know where I read this but Liza has acknowledged that’s why she chose several authors as she wasn’t up to writing it herself. She’s stated they’re pros at this and she trusts them to piece it all together based on everything she’s confided to Feinstein. He knows everything so it’s given her the freedom to not have to revisit stuff she didn’t want to - Michael knows the stories, the anecdotes, etc. She completely has given him full control over what he chooses and she doesn’t care how personal or gritty it is. Anyone who watched the documentary will remember he chimed in with transparent comments after her “rose-colored glasses” comments like her saying there were no drugs at Studio 54. Moments like these made me respect him more than I initially was.

Celebrities and public figures seldom actually write their own memoirs.

None of this is true. The two other writers were hired later to work with Liza alone.

Good to know, thanks. A Pulitzer winner on the team is somewhat reassuring too.

Yeah, I know ghostwriting is common, I just feared that this went beyond that. That the ghostwriters were ghosting Michael, not Liza. I'm happy to be wrong.

Sure.
Liza's surrogates are still lying (from their personal accounts) about the use of the ElevenLabs clone for the audiobook (and in recent posts stretching back months since the initial deal).

Yup. In November 2025 it’s been known that ElevenLabs cloned Liza’s voice and is what was used for her audiobook:

Listening to the audio book now and this is absolutely AI.

It’s horrible Ai on another level. When it “read” an intended laugh “ha ha” as text, I lost it. It also doesn’t know what a period is so there’s those weird open-ended sentences. How they didn’t bother to go back and polish it up is baffling. They literally just had the Ai voice generator “read” the text and called it a day. Wow.

By Liza Minnelli, as told to HAL 9000.

Such a bummer, especially after the expertly executed audiobook Barbra gave us.

That posed photo of Liza in a recording session can only have been an attempt to con us. ☹️

I see the book event in New York will feature movie clips , and Feinstein is bringing a piano. 60 minutes to fill. I'm still excited.

I just listened to the preview of the audio book on audible - hoping to hear how it sounds after all the chat here but the sample covers the dedication and then four and a half minutes of Feinstein reading the introduction. So that's not much help at all!
My signed copy arrived at home yesterday - but I'm not back until later in the week. My other half opened it and had a look and said that it didn't look like it was printed in, but that was as far as he would commit himself.
I have strongly mixed feelings about the process that has led us to here - and the promotion surrounding the book - but it's the only thing we're going to get so...

The Times review is bitchier than anything I’ve ever read on this board!

Almost every retail book outlet in the US and UK (including indie shops) has sold signed copies. Theres no ways she could have signed all those. It’s either autopen or secretarial with possibly some she signed mixed in.
This is feeling like a Feinstein production all the way around with a guest appearance by Liza. Sad.

This is feeling like mama needs some money to support her care. She goes over her money troubles in the book. (The auction a few years back wasn't because she was sick of holding on to Judy's scripts and some of her Halstons.) And I say there's nothing wrong with that!

His almost 15 minute introduction in the audiobook almost felt like it was HIS audiobook. It went on far too long.

Had to stop listening. Whole thing sounded like a phone tree while trying to call a pharmacy. And Feinstein’s intro was…somehow creepy. That man makes my skin crawl. At the very least, I hope Liza got paid well. (Michael got his cut too, certainly.)

Got my book delivered on Sunday from Amazon - a few days before the release date. Who knew? Really enjoying it so far.
