The concert is the LADIES who sing Sondheim...so somehow I highly doubt that any leading men will show up. And that totally blows! I LOVE Patti and am going tonight. Damn, now I'm really upset (although Lansbury will be a treat) Patti was my whole reason for going. Maybe now Bernadette will show up in her place. I'm also still hoping that this is just a rumor or something and they'll show anyway...
I was at the St. James yesterday, and LuPone and Benanti were both obviously sick. They both did a great job, but were obviously relieved to be done. :)
"A spokesman for Patti LuPone — Broadway's current Momma Rose in Gypsy — told Playbill.com on Sunday that the actress (an alumna of The Acting Company) would have to sit out the Monday concert; she's under the weather.
A handful of other ladies (and perhaps a gentleman) who sang Sondheim songs on Broadway are expected to jump into the concert. Ticket holders are in for surprises, Playbill.com has learned."

It's official, Patti and Laura have pulled out, as well as Raul Esparza, Barbara Walsh, and Donna McKechnie, according to bww. We know Patti and Laura are sick, but I wonder why the others also pulled out?
My friend called me as soon as he got home and said it was wonderful. He said it should have been recorded in some way. Lansbury did Worst Pies in London and Not While I'm Around. (I think that's what he said she did). He grabbed me a Playbill, so at least I have that!! (I gotta move to NYC!!)
OMG, what a night ! Everybody was spectacular - - - Raul was one of the ladies at the last minute ..... what a TREAT....... I saw and heard HISTORY last night.
Yes, Lansbury's "Worst Pies in London" was sensational. A revalation. Brilliant. One of the best theater moments I have ever witnessed. She looked fabulous and sounded a hell of a lot better than most people in their 80s. Still an amazing performer after all these years. And she had the entire song memorized. She got a standing ovation after that song. Her "Not While I'm Around" was also incredible and she even got a bit emotional during the end of the song. Those two numbers alone were worth my $100.
Other highlights included Raul's "Being Alive," Pamela Myers' "Another Hundred People," and Pamela and Donna's "You Can Drive A Person Crazy" with the original choreography. Brilliant.
John Doyle did a fantastic job organizing and hosting the evening. Sondheim was there as well, and he came out on stage at the end. A wonderful tribute to a living legend.
This was one of the most spectacular things I have ever seen. I completely freaked out when they did You Could Drive a Person Crazy; the other things that were really highlights for me, you could pretty much figure out ahead of time, but that was a total surprise.
Oh my God. I'm still completely in awe. I'm so glad I went.
I agree that those were the highlights of the concert for me as well. It was just completely thrilling to watch Angela do "Worst Pies" live onstage, since the original production of Sweeney Todd was long before my lifetime. The number was lively and hysterical and received a standing ovation at its end. Her rendition of "Not While I'm Around" was absolutely stunning. Getting to see her was unforgettable, because who knows when we'll get to hear Angela sing on a Broadway stage again.
Guests in attendance that I saw included Jack O'Brien, Marian Seldes, Victor Garber, Raul Esparza (who sat in the house up until he was called onstage to give his first performance of 'Being Alive' "since we closed"), and and Mr. Sondheim, who was sitting less than 20 feet away from me for the entire performance. He left out the stage door very quickly and didn't sign for the crowd, but still, it was thrilling to see him up close.
ETA: At the end of the concert, John Doyle confirmed "Bounce" at The Public.

"I have also met him in person, and I find him to be quite funny actually. Arrogant and often misinformed, but still funny."
