To be fair, winning the Tony doesn't automatically mean you're making a return. A lot of the time, that means you can make it closer to turning a profit by touring and licensing, but with this production, I can't see either happening anytime soon. And the already established Asian productions, if/when they do remount, won't return money to the Broadway entity. $20mil and plus a priority loan is a big hole to fill, but i'm happy to see it turning around.

Saw this over the weekend and really loved it. Such beauty in it's simplicity, while also having wonderful tech elements. Really impressed how it's turned it's fate around financially, it really deserves it. Hoping it gets some well-deserved recognition come Tony time.

There has been a lot of talk about the side section seating due to the staging. I saw this delightful show from Mezz. D 17 and even that far to the right the actors were always in view throughout. I do suspect that the 5 seats further to the side isle would get diminishing sightline but Im writing this because if you get a good price on these sideview seating you do capture the show even if the occasional wall of one of the cubes is out of sight. Not sure how this applies in the Orchestra but don't be too fearful halfway into the side sections in the Mezz. Enjoy.

I saw this tonight and echo all of the praise for this lovely and delightful show. I sat in Mezz B-1 and thought it was a perfect seat. I really think MHE is this year’s Kimberly.
A special fan performance will take place on February 12, and all remaining tickets will be sold for $64 via a special digital lottery. Entries are now accepted through February 2, and drawings will begin the next day at 12 noon.
More surprises to come.
The lottery for the "Maybe Happy Ending: Party Like It's 2064" performance is more expensive than tickets to normal performances won through the lottery with no clear indication what's different about it.
I entered the drawing but it would be nice if the show gave a little bit of context.

Seems like they have taken the whole house off sale (excluding seats already sold or contractual house seats) for the fan event. So there could be great seats available for many of the winners. This would be similar to the original $29 preview lottery; I was able to get extraordinary center mezzanine seats for a preview performance because I won that lottery.

I saw this Tuesday night and loved every minute. It was sweet, funny, and endearing. The set is incredible and the fireflies scene is simply beautiful. I don’t think Darren is getting enough credit for his performance. He’s not a powerhouse singer, but this role doesn’t call for that. He plays this perfectly, exactly as you’d expect a robot to walk, move, and talk. All with so much heart. We saw 5 shows and this was my favorite.

It’s interesting, I know the role doesn’t call for a powerhouse voice, but I just saw it today, and there were times when he was completely overpowered by the orchestra and we could barely hear him. But then again, I am obviously in the minority. I didn’t like the show. Sweet, yes. But I found it thin and predictable. I went with three other people. Two enjoyed it; two of us didn’t love. Not sure I understand the Jazz Singer.

I was with you. Some sweet moments and held my attention but the plot and especially music were generally forgettable. I also found both the Jazz Singer and firefly schtick kind of tacky. That said my wife is usually the stone-faced one and she was in tears by the end! Would rather this resonate with people than the latest microwaved movie adaptation.

Saw this tonight. I've liked very few new musicals in the last 6 or 7 years, but I loved this. This endearing show just sort of wraps you in its arms. I was very invested, even in moments it may have slowed down, and by the end I found myself very moved.
Very happy this made its way all the way to Broadway, it gave me real hope for the future of musical theatre.

Who's done the $40 general rush? How early are folks getting there? And are the seats partial-view? Thanks!

On Saturday I showed up at 3:00, hours after opening, and got 2 standing room tickets for the 7:00 show. They had a few rush seats left too, but none next to each other.
Hannah Kevitt will go on for Claire from February 18-23, Steven Huynh plays Oliver from March 22-28, and Christopher James Tamayo takes both performances on March 29 as Oliver.
I won the lottery for tonight's show - and what a DELIGHTFUL little musical!!! Why was I crying over robots?? Sigh.
My only "gripe" is that they staged this so narrowly that I can't imagine anyone except those in the center-most seats experienced it as intended. I know I was in lottery seats and therefore Not Great, but i missed probably half of the activity in Oliver's and Claire's apartments. I was told it wasn't anything important but it was disappointing to stare at what, to me, was an empty set for so much of the show. But at least it was only $45!
Loved it regardless.
Has a cast album been announced for this yet?

I saw this Wednesday night, and I said a similar thing to myself walking out of the theater. I haven't read this thread yet, so I don't know what others think of it, but I was happy to see an original endearing musical with modern staging. I was not humming any of the score, but the story and performances were great.

I do not see this until June (I now believe it will be opened then), but I have a question. With a lot of complaints about the staging -- that you have sightline issues if you are not pretty close to the center -- should Michael Arden be a serious candidate for Best Director? What people describe seems like it should have been completely avoidable with a slight redesign of the set. Failure to do that seems like disregard for a sizable segment of the audience.
When you see it you will understand why it would take more than a "slight redesign." They took what theatre was offered them so got stuck with this situation. (Though honestly not sure in what Broadway house it would play better??) There was so much talk early on about their having a probable early closing that they likely couldn't send more money at the time.

Absolutely. I've sat in a few locations, center and side, and for the sightline issue to be disqualifying (esp. just for candidacy) would be outrageous when you consider the whole, I think. For many reasons I also think that "completely avoidable" and "slight redesign" are easier said than done here. I'd be interested to know your thoughts re: all of this after you see it!
