I don't think I've ever seen such tone-deaf singing on a Broadway stage in my life. He sounded like a preteen boy who was forced into the school musical because no one else would do it. Every time he spoke a line, it felt like he was playing Aaron five drinks in on a Friday night: he slurred his speech so much that were I not incredibly familiar with the show already, I would have had no idea what he was saying. I guess his dancing was not the absolute worst thing I've ever seen in my life.
Like others here have mentioned, much of the role was shaved down so Cameron was able to do it; but he still managed to absolutely butcher what he had left to do. He forgot half of his lines in act two, to the point where Erika Henningsen had to feed them to him. I have to admit, if nothing else, it was thoroughly entertaining. The bit before More Is Better in particular had me trying to contain my laughter in my seat.
How the scene is meant to go:
Aaron: I read that the Maasai don't celebrate birthdays. They just get older when they feel ready.
Cady: That's true. Why did you read that?
How it went tonight:
Aaron: I read that the Maasai................
Cady: ........
Aaron: ..........
Cady: .........
Aaron: They.........
Cady: ....they don't celebrate birthdays, they just get older when they feel ready?
Aaron: Yeah, right. Haha.
Cady: ......why did you read that?
Thank you, Mean Girls, for giving me some baffled amusement. And I'm so, so sorry to anyone who paid to see any level of actual competence in the role. I hope they enjoyed the rest of the wonderful cast, who are doing their best to make up for it. I'm glad I got to catch Cailen Fu's absolutely fantasticperformance of Gretchen among all of this."
My lord that sounds like the strangest nightmare. I feel really bad for the cast, crew, and of course people that spent money to see a show expecting the highest caliber of talent. I wonder if Cameron is aware that Broadway is not the right path for him because Aaron doesn't even do that much to begin with and he's already been there for what, two weeks now? And he still doesn't know his lines? And they had to water down the role for him so much already? I don't know, the whole situation really bothers me. I really wish he wasn't so bad because my heart really goes out to people that spent their money on seeing the show and ended up seeing somebody so...bad.
Ive always gathered that Cameron was pretty entitled given his success and notoriety at such a young age. Regardless of his talent abilities, it just seems like he didn't care about this. And I believe it.
I'm trying to remember how he was when I saw it. Let's see...
First---I think someone mentioned they cut his dancing? Was he ever in the beginning? I never noticed that!
I remember cringing a little bit during "Someone Gets Hurt" when he sings with Regina.
I thought his duet with Cady during Stupid With Love was good until they had to sing together, then he was noticeably off.
He got better in the second act-I think. ...wait maybe during "Stupid With Love (Reprise)" was when I cringed because he just could NOT harmonize with Cady well. Ooof.
The only time I thought he got better was during the second half. As I actually saw him in person, I thought from "More Is Better" til the Spring Fling scene he was actually better.
In general, while they've been really good about casting (Krystina, Renee), this was a serious misstep. I hope they learn from this with whoever comes in next!
Saw mean girls Sunday January 26th. It was the show we received for Broadway Roulette. I see shows all the time and I have to say really not on par with broadway shows and felt very Corny and cringe. None of the jokes landed and the kept none of the same hilarious vibe that the movie had. Some of the vocal performances were well done but let me just say.. this Cameron Dallas?? RUINED the show. Laughable horrible voice that people totally were laughing at loud at every time he sang. Such a shame people spend so much money on tickets and have to see such a garbage casting.. not even stunt casting because he’s a YouTuber?? Not a famous person??? Or talented??? Least favorite show ever. Least favorite performance of all time. You have been warned.

Not about Cameron, but what you'd think about Renee?? When I saw her I thought her voice was incredible!!
When does this long national nightmare end, again? I want to get tickets for a return trip before Kate Rockwell leaves (my mom is a huge fan of hers) but I'd prefer to avoid the Cameron Dallas trainwreck if possible.

This upcoming week is his last. After February 11th, you should be solid.

I've always had a thing for Broadway cringe, so this completely fascinates me. If it's half as bad as everyone says it is, I'd want to see it for the laughs. I saw the show last May and thought it was great, and if I were in NY it would have gotten me to buy another ticket just to see this guy try and hit the notes.
I am by no means condoning bootlegs by ANY means, but if there was ever a bootleg I would die to see, this is it...
I saw Mean Girls with original cast a while back, and honestly the Aaron Samuels character barely registered for me - generally forgettable. But luckily a friend of mine warned me about Cameron Dallas so I wasn't blindsided when I saw it again on 1/28. It was so stand-out, laughably bad, I could hear my friend chuckling (desperately trying not to belly laugh) 4 seats away from me. Definitely tittering all across the mezzanine. The mezzanine was basically sold out, but I don't know if that's because of his stunt casting, TodayTix promo or TDF. The rest of the show was still fun the 2nd time around.
I don't know anything about this guy, but I would think hearing people laughing at your performance night after night would be completely horrifying. The casting people really screwed this one up. Yikes.
He’s had bad reviews across the board on his singing, yet for the past week he’s been posting about his new song that’s coming out a couple days before he leaves the show.
Just saw Mean Girls for the first time tonight. Mostly for the original cast members leaving, but also to see how bad Cameron would be. I actually was kind of shocked that I didn’t find him that bad. I found his acting to be really good (when he wasn’t singing) and he was very into it and believable. His singing also wasn’t as bad as I expected. I heard the clip posted online and honestly that was the worst of it. The rest of his singing besides what was cut was fine and I think Ericka tried to compensate during the harmonies by singing louder so you couldn’t really hear if he was off or not.
Otherwise the show was really good. Glad I got to see Barrett and Kate, but Grey and Krystina were out (which I expected from social media posts). Renee was killer and the whole cast is just filled with energy. While I was disappointed Grey wasn’t there, his understudy was fantastic.

A standby at Mean Girls posted to her story last night and said how it’s not okay to complain to an understudy at stage door about how much better the principal actor would have been if they went on... wonder if that had anything to do with Cameron being out of last nights show
