That's kind of a gross take."
What I’m saying is that is just horrendous behavior. People are once again out of work when they’ve just been unemployed for a year and a half."
Why are people so happy about this?"
Since the show's Seattle tryout, and especially once it re-opened after the shutdown, there has been some backlash to the show on social media in the same vein as the criticism of Tootsie a few years ago - that it was just another show putting a man in a dress for comedy. They argued that shows like this perpetuate the idea that transgender women are just men in dresses, which is harmful to the trans community (I agree that this perception is harmful but I do think the show is at least trying to fight it, with dialogue making it explicit that what Daniel is doing isn't the same thing as being transgender). For that reason, there are people that do not want this show to be running at all, and even the 9-week hiatus is cause for celebration.

I doubt the show fires back up in March.
Do we really think that when, and if, this comes back it'll last through the Spring & Summer?

Why not? It’s based on a classic family film. Once tourist season fires back up in warmer weather with lower cases and concern, there’s no reason for it to fail.

I was not trying to be rude. It's just frustrating when people don't understand and think they do. Sorry if my logic isn't logical to you because it would make sense to you if you'd take the time to understand things. And regarding the virus, (1) it's not about you, it's about running a business, and (2) it's not about fear, it's about respect.
@wormwood & kidmanI hear what you are saying, but I think that before we are done, a non-universal hiatus ultimately hurts everyone. Even a show like Hamilton. PS I don't think we can see how this plays out just yet.

I think it will last through the end of the year. It's more popular than Tootsie.

Not to be negative, but Doubtfire would have trouble running even in the best of times.

Lol, is this sarcasm? 75% percent of musicals based on "classic films" flop. Badly.
Though I could exchange my late January ticket to later this year, I finally read the reviews.
A refund it will be.
Is the $700k/week cost only employee salaries or does it also include rent? If only employee salaries for $700k/week, then that's roughly an average of $6000/week per employee, which is not bad (I understand the lead actors probably make well over $10k per week whereas the ensemble make the minimum.)

$700K per week is not just salaries –– it's salaries, plus drycleaning and Covid testing and advertising and set touchups and relearsals and office fees and royalty percentages and alllllll the other weekly expenses that go into making a show run.
I'd be kinda shocked if any principal actor in that cast is making more than ~$5K per week. Nobody's name is selling tickets.
I remember reading something that Elphaba's make $10,000 a week and none of them are "names.' But maybe that's not true. I'd think Rob is getting paid handsomely. And the fact that he commutes from Philly everyday is crazy to me.
Since I can't send PMs at the moment... Jordan Catalano, if you're reading this, Casey Garvin will be on for Stuart all week before Doubtfire goes on hiatus.

The entire week.
Well this week just got a whole lot better...
Did I miss when they started calling this Mrs. Doubtfire again? https://mrsdoubtfirebroadway.com/

I mean 10,000 a week is half a mil a year, gross income...which is fine, frankly that role is beastly and they deserve every penny. Wicked has never needed a name, even Idina wasn't "Idina" quite yet when she was in it. She was known, but not "A level star" known. I'm also sure Rob is doing fine salary wise as well, like Wicked, this show doesn't need names, and I also said the same about his Philly commute in another thread back when and it was lambasted. Like...whatever floats his boat I suppose, but I would NEVER want to make that commute on the regular.
That said, knowing more about this hiatus, if this is what keep it running and people employed...good choice.

Chances are the producers knew that Rob lives in Philadelphia and he probably negotiated a little extra to cover commuting costs or has a place to crash for longer show stretches (like all of the two show days last week). Plus, he’s probably taking Amtrak and not NJ Transit to connect - which is about an 80mins train ride. For context, I live in Central NJ in a town about 15 minutes from Rutgers University and, depending on the day and time, NJ Transit takes about 60 mins to get into the city and I’m about 25 miles outside the city.
Yeah, I guess in major cities an hour commute or more isn't that crazy just hard to wrap my head around living in one major city and working in another.

I live in Wilmington, DE (about a 1/2 hour south of Philly via Amtrak). From Philly, NYC is about 1 1/2 hours via regular Amtrak. Acela (Amtrak's "high speed" service) is only a few minutes faster.

^^HA, yeah some 'high speed' service...the only Aceala route that I can think of that's in any way significantly faster is Penn Station to DC, because I also noticed that Penn to Philly isn't near significant enough to call it 'high speed'

I actually know for fact he uses Amtrak, I only know this because when Doubtfire was in pre pandemic previews, he had posted a video on one of his socials ripping Amtrak apart for their ****ty service because that particular day, the train totally stalled for whatever reason and it caused him to miss almost the whole show that day. His rant was hilarious in its own right ;P
