Exciting to see the whole cast is there!
I like it. Obviously won't form strong opinions from a reading set up without plot, costumes, set, context etc. but will be interested to see more in the coming weeks.

The cast is certainly giving it their all, but the lyrics are like a dictionary of cliches.

Okay, yeah, I finally watched the video and tapped out at 2:20. This show is going to be ass.

That's exactly how I feel about this show...I think the songs sound fine but I feel like most people immediately are forming opinions without all of these elements.

On paper this feels like it should be right up my alley. I loved Arden's direction in Parade, I loved Ali in Tommy, and I think the source material is good.... But I'm reeeeeeeeeeeally concerned the songs aren't going to do anything. They're going to rely on the book to tell the whole story and the songs are just going to be generic filler that barely and vaguely "comments" on what's going on. Hoping I'm proven wrong though! I'd love for this to be the breakout original hit this season needs.

Things feel different with sets lighting costimes emotional stakes etc.
For instance Happy Endings I loved all in the moment but I haven’t listened to any of it out of context.

I have never seen the movie but this song and performance has me interested in getting a ticket.

Wasn't one of the big selling points of the movie the sexiness of Jason Patric, Keifer Sutherland, and Jami Gertz? This is musical theater's idea of sex appeal?
As for that other song, it at least sounds like the right vibe but, again, the lyrics are just one cliche after another.
I'm not carving my knives for this one or anything but...damn, this does not look good.

Don't insult Ali like that, please. He is incredibly talented and I think he looks great, similar to Keifer minus the whole being an asshole thing.

It’s really not a great shoot. It would’ve benefited from being on location or at least with scenic elements, not in the void of a seamless paper backdrop in a studio. It just looks cheaply or quickly conceived.

This shoot looks so much like the movie - glad they’re going to be true to their source material! Kinda makes me feel old but oh well lol

Between the costume stylings and the overly saturated "bisexual lighting," they look like the love interest characters from those Chinese sci-fi dating sims (Love and Deep Space, etc.)
I sent the photo to the two girls I know who play those, and they both agreed with me.
