The cast asked for the audience to stop the booing, thanked Pence for being there, and wished that the show inspired him to be an inclusive leader. But that is 'embarrassing' and 'shaming'?
Either you have unbelievably thin skin, or you're intentionally mischaracterizing what happened..
How is the incident being mischaracterized? The cast made sure it was filmed so it could go viral!
Pence was there as an audience member. He was not there in any official capacity as the Vice President elect. He did not make any statement about the play, cast or production. The cast had no right to single him out with a statement. Brandon Victor Dixon wanted a moment in the spotlight.
I agree with the statement in Trump's tweet that Mike Pence was harassed by the cast. This should not have happened.
The theatre has always been used as a place to educate, to enlighten, not just to entertain. Theatre artists through history have made statements about politics and politicians and many of them were not as nice as the Hamilton cast was. They said nothing wrong and out of the way and were very respectful in their plea for an exercise of care in the powers of the government for ALL people. And if that offended our future president and vice president then that is entirely too bad, especially with how they have scathingly scorned and insulted our current president on numerous occasions. Good job Hamilton cast!
fbueller, you can continue to ask every few posts, if you have nothing better to do with your time,
but I promise you that you (and Trump) will be waiting for that apology a lot longer than Trump and Pence (or any of us) will be alive, never mind still holding office.

Has the cast apologized yet?
"
no one has to apologize to scum of the earth.
Also, how ironic of Trump to say that the theatre is supposed to be a 'safe place' --- the theatre , and the arts, in general, has always been a safe space for people who are discriminated and devalued and dehumanized by idiotic, crass, rich, white supremacy elitist LIKE him and Pence. he really is spewing more crap with every passing day.
So gad I'm not on social media, I think between the election and this Hamilton incident I would have deleted all of it by now anyway.
I think a distinction should be made between the cast's behavior and the audience's behavior. The cast was not harassing him (perhaps being a bit patronizing), but I would say the boos from the audience count. Of course no one on either side seems to care about what actually happened anyway...
In public office you are always that role...he doesn't get time off from his title. BVD didn't want attention, this was a collaborative effort.
They made a plea, not harassment.
Free Speech. Funny when people want to say hateful things, they love free speech....until it's used against them.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

why wouldn't anybody care about the feelings of a man in power who will try to endanger the lives of thousands of people in the near future. boo ****ing hoo.
If Pence wants to be entertained and not booed, he can go to Branson. I'm still not sure why the PEOTUS is king butthurt about the lowest priority issues. Talk about disrespect....This guy has been harassing Rosie odonnell since my nephew was an infant, he's now in Jr high. That'll give some perspective. Besides, this guy isn't our dad or our God, he doesn't tell us to jump.
ETA the person who was allegedly disrespected has not even said that he feels that way. Why is Trump acting like he has to protect his lady's honor? Doesn't he think Pence can stand up for himself if he wanted to? Even if it was awkward, Pence knows how politics go and isn't going to waste time crying. My god, if Obama stopped the world everytime he was disrespected...

Last night at the Chicago Hamilton, someone screamed, "F**k you, we won, you lost! Get over it!" after the "immigrants, we get the job done" line.
That is harassment but I doubt it will be addressed by Trump.
Also, in general, I don't understand why people think actors/celebrities should be silent about their political views? They're people. Just because they're "famous" doesn't mean they're immune to the policies and laws put forth by the government.
Really, the performers were CRYING ???? in Chicago cause someone yelled out a dirty word. These performers will be parents one day, can you imagine how fragile their kids will be growing up. BTW, it really is a Highly Overrated show no doubt there. If it weren't for Social Media I'm quite sure they would have posted closing notices months ago, but it is what it is right ?

Just because they're famous doesn't mean that they are superior morally or intellectually to anyone else, or that their celebrity gives them the right to lecture and talk down to anybody else, or that their pronouncements have even the slightest worth. Their egomania, arrogance and conceit are often matched only by their cluelessness and rank stupidity.

" What does it matter if they were crying? The same thing happens in the Broadway production, and has happened in the Chicago production before. It's not like the ending of the show is cheery and fun-filled.
Pence has asked for no apology, and responded to the incident in an (dare I say it?) admirable manner.
"At the end, I did hear what was said from the stage and I can tell you - I wasn't offended by what was said. I'll leave to others whether that was the appropriate venue to say it."

Imagine if the United States had a foreign nation that it disagreed with on matters of policy, governing and democratic principles. We might try to set an example of love, inclusion and freedom here at home. Imagine if the leader of the foreign nation came to the U.S. to observe our message, and we called him out publicly with some passive aggressive statement and made him feel uncomfortable, embarrassed, and unwelcome. That's not motivated by love and out of a desire for a nation to change. It's motivated by bitterness and hate, and a chance to stick it to the him. When the people of the foreign nation hears about it, they aren't going to think "Oh, they're right! I want to be like them!" They are going to be our enemy and possibly turn hostile towards us.
The Hamilton cast may have set our cause back 4 more years by their form of diplomacy. Eventually we will learn our own lesson that we have tried to preach: LOVE trumps hate.
