Re-reading your hint, I realized that's not what you were saying, as Mandy never performed Comet. I'm guessing, then, that you must be talking about Groban. Which doesn't seem to be a good fit. (Although I'll listen to his recording.)"
Yeah it's pretty clear they're suggesting a Groban-Ashford pairing is being put together but I don't see it working super well on stage either. Groban has the voice in spades, but I didn't find him particularly arresting on stage and Sweeney needs that raw charisma, especially on a big Broadway stage. Now a Patrick Page + Amber Grey pairing would get me running to the theater.

Interesting that in today's Broadway Briefing, in the "In Development" section, Joseph is listed, and the producer (Michael Harrison) currently has out a tour of the most recent London Palladium version of the show going out around the UK that is rumoured to come to Toronto during the holidays. Could it be a pre-tryout?

After the delightful concert of ME AND MY GIRL at CIty Center, I'm game for a revival with that entire cast. A pipe dream, but one can hope. :)
I'd also love to see Bart Sher take a whack at A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC at the Beaumont. With the original orchestrations and that sweeping landscape of a stage? It would be heaven.

The first to come to mind is They're Playing Our Song.

It would be easier to count the major Regional and Canadian productions which AREN'T Pre-Broadway tryouts....
Sadly, there's only enough room for a few of them...

This could hav been better than Plaza Suite for SJP and Broderick.

I will stop saying Ragtime when it happens.
Also Secret Garden - I mean they DID say we were getting a revival of it like 4 years ago...

Sadly, both productions of Ragtime were financial flops. I only saw the revival, which I thought was absolutely terrific, but I can't see anyone trying for a third time.

"Kiss of the Spider Woman" with Vanessa Williams or possibly Beyonce's Broadway Debut. (For some reason Beyonce just popped in my mind!)
"The Wiz"

The Wiz would be an excellent choice. I recently heard on social media that the reason why we can't have a West End version of that musical (there was recently a revival in Manchester) is because the people holding the rights to bringing it back on Broadway are blocking it. So why don't they bring it back on Broadway ASAP to clear the air?

Jeez, how did that thought slip my mind! It'd be a lot of fun to see them perform this sweet and simple show.

Lumiere2 said: "Just for fun, when looking at commercially successful shows that haven't been revived, I looked at the top five longest running musicals that have never been revived on Broadway (not counting, of course, shows that are still running in NYC.) I also didn't include Kinky Boots or Beautiful just because they only closed in 2019 and it's way too soon to revive them.
Here they are....
5. Rock of Ages. It played two different theatres over its six-year run, and it had a 2012 film version that bombed hard at the box office. How to make it new - what about setting it at a real concert? Immersive revivals at Circle in the Square (like Once on this Island and Oklahoma!) have been popular in recent years.
4. Mary Poppins. Having just closed in 2013, nine years may not seem like a long time. But that how long there was between Ragtime's 2000 closing and its 2009 revival. Spring Awakening was even less from its 2008 closing to a 2015 revival.
3. Hairspray. A big surprise hit that ended up playing a successful six-year run, but hasn't been seen since 2009. The live TV version in 2016 was the last high-profile version of the show.
2. Rent. Winner of dozens of awards and one of the rare musicals to win the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. It had a short-lived off-Broadway revival in 2011 that lasted only eight months, and the last professional tour just ended last month. It hasn't had an NYC presence in more than a decade. Maybe there's no day but today?
1. Disney's Beauty and the Beast. It ran over 13 years, and Disney hasn't produced a new show since 2018, with nothing new set to arrive in the future. Maybe it's time for a redesign? (Curiously, a new version of this show produced by Disney has been running on one of their cruise ships, the Disney Dream, for years now to smashing reviews. Not that a 60-minute cruise ship show is good enough for Broadway proper, but perhaps it's a good launching pad for a new design of the full-length show?)
Honourable mentions go to plays Life with Father and Tobacco Road - I know nothing about the plays themselves, but they're the two longest running plays in Broadway history, both with over seven years in their original runs. What about a revival of them?
Some other honourable mentions (and the next five longest running shows on the list afterwards):Smokey Joe's Cafe (closed in 2000),The Magic Show (closed in 1978),Aida (closed in 2004),Dancin' (closed in 1982 - though a new version from La Jolla is rumoured to be looking at a Broadway run....) andCrazy For You (closed in 1996)"
The Off Broadway ReNt was enough for the next century.

SAME TIME, NEXT YEAR. It lends itself to gloriously delicious stunt casting.

It's not most overdue, but reading reviews of Clybourne Park in the UK makes me think it would be great to have on stage again.

Parade is one of those incredible musicals that could never ever be bankable to come back to Broadway.
Subject matter wise it’s just not appealing to masses especially after everything we just went through globally

I really wish "Forum" would get a revival. I had heard rumors a few years back that Josh Gad would play Pseudolus which I think would be amazing. I can't see "They're Playing Our Song" being revived. It seems incredibly dated. I saw the original cast on Broadway and was very underwhelmed.

I asked this on a previous page, but I didn't receive an answer, so I'll ask again: Does anyone know what happened to the Tony Yazbeck revival of Crazy For You? I remember hearing Sierra Boggess replaced Laura Osnes after the vaccination situation, but nothing since then.

Hello, Dolly! Life without that show is merely breathing, not actually living.

Susan Stroman is directing a UK production of CRAZY FOR YOU starring Charlie Stemp at Chichester from July-September 2022, featuring her US design team. My assumption is that the Yazbeck revival –– for which Joey Parnes had a very hard time raising money –– is dead.

A revival of "Funny Girl" with a top-notch actor/singer starring as Fanny Brice is long overdue.
Oh, wait. Never mind. I forgot. ![]()

I will keep saying this until the day it happens. But I need revivals of parade and ragtime running in rep with on another produced by Lincoln Center.
I will also say, I think revivals of The Wiz, Dreamgirls, and Shuffle Along, or, the Making of the Musical Sensation of 1921 and All That Followed are long overdue.
