From what I can remember from the 5th preview is that the floor rose a bit to create stairs, but that was mainly it from what I can remember. Don’t remember any people coming up from the floor. Doesn’t mean they can’t come from other unique places though :)
They have been loading it stuff since the week after Kinky boots closed. (I live across the street) The seats were all removed and they've been loading lights and sets for awhile. More of the set pieces have been coming in this week. You can catch a glimpse of the stage from the stage doors which are usually always open during the week.
I understand it's a jukebox musical but I really wish they would change the arrangements of the songs that they're using. The movie did a great job of using popular songs but making them work in context of the show but the musical is basically just karaoke. That and the lack of chemistry between the two leads were my biggest obstacles to liking the show. I was hoping they would recast those two parts.
In addition to the lack of chemistry between the two leads Christian and Satine, I recall the Duke was quite hot/attractive ... to the point where at times I felt there was more chemistry between Satine and the Duke than Satine & Christian!

I think you meant at all times vs. at times. No chemistry between the two leads. And it didn't make sense for her alternative choice to be so dashing.
I read somewhere that was exactly what the bookwriter was going for. They wanted the Duke to have charm, so there could be more realistic competition/threat for Christian.
My main issue with the book is that the story has lost its edge and sense of danger. In the film, the Moulin Rouge is this seedy, cutthroat environment, while in the stage version it's a space where all the courtesans/performers see themselves as a family and Satine is everyone's 'Mama'.
Somebody pointed out in the previews thread that the club in the show reminded them of the circus from 'The Greatest Showman', and I have to agree. It's very clean, sanitized and unexciting...
Well I think the movie Satine worked because Nicole Kidman is able to seem slightly creepy and disembodied onscreen. Like she's there but not there. She's the same way in The Hours, Pretty Little Lies, and The Others. I don't know of a Broadway singer currently who has that same ability to seem slightly kooky, out there, and ethereal.

Which one are we talking? Taylor Swift on Mariah Carey? Lol"
Oops, I did mean Shake It Out LOL
That said, I'd much prefer either one of those Shake It Off songs to Shake It Out. I get what they were trying to do, but I'd much prefer a different song and really just a different moment for that character. It just stopped the show cold.

Back in March a cast member told me they were fixing up the storyline in act 2 a little bit but that was in March so they could’ve reverted back or added more
Get rid of the hit wonders like shut up and dance and stick to classics or iconic songs. Get rid of shake it off. And firework. You may as well then add Youngblood if your are just adding modern songs that don’t have an integral part to the story.
Just wanted to say I disagree with nearly every negative thing in here (bar Shake it Off). The show was fantastic. The leads were superb, the production eye popping, much of the new songs worked (though I wish they kept Like a Virgin and The Show Must Go On) and the act 2 opening incredible. One of the most fun nights in the theatre, and also, the romance came through nicely.
Go judge for yourself, yes the book is just average, but it's stringer than the film book that got bogged down on razzle. If you walk in expecting to watch Moulin Rouge then you are gonna come out more than satisfied.
Namo i love u but we get it already....you don't like Madonna
Yeah I was hoping they’d make more of an event outside. I know Timbers loves a pre-show, so here’s hoping! Also the theater is pretty smushed, so I doubt it will seem as grand as in Boston.

Off topic, but SIssy Spacek. A different etherial, but yes. (Especially in the 70s)
Fireworks seriously is the replacement song for One Day I'll Fly Away? This alone makes me not want to see this show...that is one of the most beautiful scenes and songs in the movie...

yeah. Satin sat at her vanity table and then started singing this and people around me first thought it was a joke and chuckled but then was like oh i guess this is her "One Day I'll fly away" .
