What do you think could take the Marquis Theatre after On Your Feet!? I wonder if Frozen would've taken it if it hadn't already been set for the St. James.

I would imagine if the rumors are true, SpongeBob after waiting it out for so long. If not, perhaps the Dreamgirls revival or maybe Carousel?

"Dreamgirls is not happening till Feb '18 a Shubert House or as I've heard possibly the Hudson.

They have out-of-town tryouts scheduled until late 2017 - early 2018 so I doubt the Marquis would stay empty that long.

Obscure posts are always really helpful for discourse on here! Thanks!

Cryptic messages are my favorite!
If that is true, though, it'd have to be SpongeBob. Frozen has the St. James. Dream Girls and Margaritaville aren't arriving until at least Spring 2018, I would assume. I guess maybe Carousel could happen but I'm thinking no.

Whatever it is, I hope it's something new, as opposed to announcing a home for a show we already know about. Right now, there are only six confirmed musicals coming in next season (which feels low to me): The Band's Visit, Carousel, Frozen, My Fair Lady, Prince of Broadway, and Once on This Island. The only one of those that doesn't have a home yet is Carousel.

There could be a limited engagement or two though, perhaps The Illusionists.

LOL. You're welcome. Don't mean to offend, but it's a little like insider trading. I will say that I don't really much care for the Marquis Theatre. It's kinda charmless in my thinking compared to other Broadway houses, but hey . . . that's me. And I'm not producing there, so what do I know?

I'm sure we will know tomorrow. As soon as a show announces a closing the new show pounces and starts the PR wheel spinning.

I'm guessing a short term tenant like Illusionists, for the winter, then Escape To Margaritaville in Feb or March.

I just was thinking because they recently announced NYC auditions, etc, so it's def. going to Broadway - well nothing is "definite" in this business, but you know what I mean. And the Marquis would play well for it's resort/cruise ship kinda feel.

Margaritaville is going to the Marquis and Spongebob is going to the palace for a limited time....

When is the palace supposed to be raised? Or has that been abandoned?

Spongebob didn't sell very well out of town. A limited run makes sense if they want to take the original Newsies route and just go to Broadway for licensing reasons. It's definitely going to be popular for community theatres and high schools, and if a commercial run isn't liable.... ya never know.

I can't answer your question, but the Sunset Boulevard Facebook page posted a comment yesterday stating that they definitely could not extend and have to close on June 25.

According to the article, they were waiting on An American in Paris to finish its run, so I'm not sure when construction would begin after Sunset?

Though that could be due to another commitment for Glen Close and/or time limits on how long the non-American cast members can perform.
