Shame — but not a surprise given the weak grosses.
I hope Audra (and this play) gets recognized come Tony time.
Fly, Eagles, fly
On the road to victory
Fight, Eagles, fight
Score a touchdown 1-2-3
Hit ‘em low
Hit ‘em high
And watch our Eagles fly
Fly, Eagles, fly
On the road to victory
E-A-G-L-E-S Eagles!
A shame this didn't sell, but ~40% capacity is really sad.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.
Too bad. I saw the show on New Year's Day and there were many vacant seats in the orchestra. Audra is excellent, as usual, but the play itself seemed to be missing something that I couldn't quite identify. I enjoyed it, but I wanted more. I think people were reluctant to pay today's prices for a play that runs just over an hour.
I’ve tried to rush this show several times and was always turned away. Granted, I was arriving at the window 2 hours prior to curtain due to work but seeing their level of sell-through, you would’ve hoped they would’ve been more accommodating. I don’t think there was much interest in raising their financial viability. Better a discounted seat than an empty one, IMHO.
I loved this show. Had great luck with a rush ticket about an hour before curtain. 2nd row, center, on the aisle. It was thrilling to up that close to the brilliance that is Audra. I was riveted by the play and immediately went home, researched Adriene Kennedy, the other plays that focused on Suzanne Alexander, and Kennedy's other work. It may have been brief, but the impact of bringing Adriene Kennedy to Broadway is an accomplishment on its own. Audra gave, as usual, a career best performance. Happy I saw it. It was packed the day I went, but it was early in the run so the people who wanted to see it have all seen it by now I'm sure.
And as Sutton said above me, nobody cares if she's not singing. I'm sure if Audra was starring in a musical right now she could pack 'em in. Ah, well. I will see her in anything.

I tried on a Wednesday matinee. Believe it was December 14th so one week post opening. $39. Couldn't have gotten a better deal for a better seat.
It’s just a sad state of affairs. The general public outside of this theater bubble we live in just want shows that are familiar to them in some way. Either a brand, or songs they know, or a mega movie/tv star. Or some combination of these three. For example: They’re happy just singing Sweet Caroline back to the stage, like they’re at a baseball game. It’s familiar, it’s safe. Anyway that’s where we are at. Sad.
Yes, the market continues to remain challenging, but the general public is not a monolith. It has varied interests, motivations, and price points. Producers, creatives, and marketers need to find their audience and cultivate it accordingly.
I saw this tonight; it dragged for me whenever Bryce Pinkham's character was listlessly reading from novels. But the rest of it is The Audra Show, and its like being in a holy temple to watch her go off. Just an exquisite performance.
Surprisingly, the orchestra was almost totally full tonight, and it looked like the mezz was pretty full, too. Wasn't expecting that given today's closing announcement.
I'm so upset. I specifically planned my trip in late January to be able to see this show. I thought there was no way they would close early with such a limited run. Ugh.
"This table, he is over one hundred years old. If I could, I would take an old gramophone needle and run it along the surface of the wood. To hear the music of the voices. All that was said." - Doug Wright, I Am My Own Wife
Audra was spectacular in this and I hope she's recognized come Tonys time. This is the second play in a row that she's done that had to close early. I truly hope she does a musical next.
Has anyone rushed this recently? It looks like there's still a decent number of tickets available for remaining performances (though not a ton) and I'm wondering if rush tickets would be better seats than linctix
Just back from the matinee. The theater seemed to be full from what I could see. TDF tix were in the balcony which was also full. Audra, as usual was sensational! Don't miss this — she is simply amazing.
Congrats/Bravi to Kenny, Audra, Ms. Kennedy, and everyone on the OHIO STATE MURDERS team for a job well-done. This play is a jewel, and I'm glad to see the support it is receiving. In my (absolutely correct) opinion, Kennedy is the greatest playwright of all time. Glad she got her long-overdue Broadway debut!
