Desiree: Toni Collette Madame Armfeldt: Joan Plowright Fredrik Egerman: Liam Neeson (I don't care if he can sing or not--he'd be beyond dashing in the role) Carl-Magnus: Steven Pasquale Charlotte: Emily Skinner Henrik Egerman: Bobby Steggert Anne Egerman: Alexandra Socha Petra: Megan Lawrence
"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe."

48-year-old Tonya Pinkins as Madame Armfeldt?!?! She'd kill you if she heard that.

Does Patricia Routledge still act? I'd love to see her as Madame.

Right now, I could actually see her as a compelling Desiree.

I saw the show on Sunday and I was dazzled by most of the cast but very annoyed by Ramona Mallory and couldn't help thinking that Laura Benanti would be a stunning Anne.
Benanti played it regionally. She also WAY too old for the role now. She's in her 30s. She was approached for Charlotte but turned it down to originate a lead role in a new play (Vibrator Play).

Fredrik will be too much a thankless role for Paulo, and even though I know he will rock this role like hell, he is too bulky and handsome for it. It's more suitable for him to be the Count, but again, another thankless role for such a lovely singer (same as what happened to Aaron).
I'm in LOVE with the Audra idea and what about Phylicia Rashad opposite her as Madame Armfeldt? Ive heard she was great as the witch in Into the Woods,
And Broadway needs to see Kate Baldwin (Finian's Rainbow)'s Charlotte...She was perfect in the role at Center Stage in Baltimore.
Frederick is actually a wonderful role; and Szot is definitely not too bulky or handsome for the part -- actually, Hanson's replacement, Stephen Buntrock is very much in the Paulo Szot mold phsycially....
Audra McDonald would be heavenly and I think any number of Madame Armfeldts - Leslie Uggums, Phylicia Rashad, Diahann Carroll would be wonderful opposite her.
