Luke and Josh's voices are perfect, but damn are the orchestrations messy! They're all over the place and I don't know which one to focus on. Plus, it drowns out the singing.
Speaking as the self-appointed Diz collector of the BWW boards, there is SO much merchandise for this movie. Dolls and figures and lithographs and pins and accessories...all aboard the hype train!!
Gosh, I heard Evermore and How Does a Moment last forever and thought they were ok... Days in the Sun does sound gorgeous. It sounds like a CLASSIC Disney song (ala When You Wish Upon a Star) . More Menken/Rice please!
i think Emma sounds great considering she was very nervous to sing for the film. but i totally agree, Emma Thompson does not have the warmth and sweetness that Angela Lansbury had when singing the iconic song. i think she puts the cockney accent on too much for this song. when speaking in the film (from the teaser videos we have seen so far with the enchanted objects), she sounds lovely.
i did have my doubts about Ewan McGregor being cast as Lumiere, but i have totally overlooked that now the more i see.
i have just finished reading the novelization of the live action film...
it looks amazing so far. I can't wait to see Luke as Gaston singing this song. he's gonna steal the scene. hope we get to see more clips over the next couple of weeks building up to the big world-wide release on March 17th.
I have considered myself very skeptical of this film at the start. That being said, the more I have seen, I consider myself cautiously optimistic about this film. There really remains 2 big concerns about this film and it revolves around the same character: the Beast. Despite everything, we do not know how well Dan Stevens can sing. I would love to go wityh the logic that surely there was plenty of competition for the role, including those that can sing but I've also heard Condon zeroed on him long before they knew. I am also curious about "Evermore.." Die hard BATB fans KNOW what song this replaces. The question is does the song justify the replacement. Not really rushing to judgement based on a 30 second clip sung by Josh Groban, a singer that makes OK songs beautiful and classic standards timeless.
^Does it really matter if he can sing, if he has the most unrelatable, completely missed the mark, CGI face? Not to mention your Belle can't sing the score, why should the Beast?
By my judgement, Emma has a rather nice singing voice. I also have no problem with the CG as, according to an article I read in EW, they reasreaslly did some unique work in ensuring the Beast is able to emote.
Emma is so auto tuned into oblivion it's really too bad.
She probably wasn't even that bad but it's such a typical thing for Disney to have this "princess perfect pitch" representation of Belle. Like bad Glee auto tune.
You can criticize Russell Crowe in Les Mis all you want but at least you could tell it was him. This is distracting.
I'm predicting this to be one of those charming and certainly watchable but flawed and awkward movie musical adaptations. Like the Rent movie.
