Adding my two cents/observations here. Nothing I say is an attack on Deaf West or the work they do. I agree that this production of Spring Awakening was interesting and needed and a Tony performance will expand the reach of the production.
However: the deceptive language and backhanded business tactics used to repay commercial producers under the guise of supporting Deaf West is despicable. Relying on the donations of fans to "fund" a performance when 1) the performance is already bought and paid for, 2) this possibility should have been including in the closing deal, and 3) the purported costs of the performance are nearly HALF the typical annual expenses of Deaf West.
Nowhere does the Kickstarter mention the commercial producers, despite the url for the campaign, GetSpringOnTheTonys.com being registered to Davenport Theatricals. At no time has the Tony Awards, Deaf West, or Davenport commented on the relationship between the two. And no one involved is admitting to the truth: the cast of Spring Awakening WILL perform on the broadcast no matter the outcome of the Kickstarter, as the performance has been slotted, paid for and more than likely already in rehearsal.
Does anyone follow any of the cast members on social media and Cantrell us if anyon them are in New York probably rehearsing for the tony awards?

I am sure they have been directed not to post rehearsal pics or anything, to keep up the charade that they can't afford rehearsal space without donations. A quick check of some cast members instagrams and twitters says that many of them are currently in NYC, but I don't keep tabs on who still lives there and who moved back to LA or somewhere else after the show closed.
They keep claiming "Well, the cast is literally scattered across the US!" but what they really mean is, most of our cast is in LA, and the rest in New York. There's NO way to rationalize this shady and ridiculous scam.
They/them.

What does Davenport have to gain from this besides publicity for a tour that may not even be happening?
"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022)
"Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009)
"Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000

perhaps but why does it matter? that's irrelevant seeing as they are all back together in NYC now preparing for a performance on the Tony Awards that is supposedly in danger of not happening

I don't know how you know this but I very much hope it's true. They deserve it.

Another reason why it's logistically impossible for this campaign to be required for a Tony performance to happen. Do they expect people to believe everyone will be traveling and then rehearsing in the wee morning hours of 6/12, after the campaign ends?
also: ...when does Kickstarter even release funds after a campaign ends? There's no way it's immediate. Especially on a weekend.
"...everyone finally shut up, and the audience could enjoy the beginning of the Anatevka Pogram in peace."
I love the idea of everyone in the cast scrambling to book a flight at 12:05 AM while in their Uber to the Airport, hoping that their Venmo from Ken comes in before the last seat is gone.

We know it, because logic dictates that Spring Awakening cannot wait until the day before the Tonys to decide whether to perform. That decision must already be set. Actors have to make plans, rehearsals must happen, etc. I wouldn't necessarily say that they're already in NY, but they must be soon. Surely it must be evident to everyone that the way the Kickstarter is being presented is disingenuous?
