I understand them wanting to get a star to play Rose, but since they obviously failed to do that, why didn’t they just let Alex Ellis reprise the role she originated? Casting the In the Heights no name girl is both pointless and ****ty.

Because she’ll sell one more ticket than Alex Ellis would, and in this scenario, one more ticket is one more ticket. They’ll take all the help they can get.

I planned on seeing this anyway, but I am intrigued to see how Melissa Barrera does.
I'm a big horror fan. Melissa has been very good in that genre. She gets a lot of press now because of her controversial firing from the Scream franchise, which could sell a few more tickets. No, she's not an A-Lister by any means, but the big horror sites will post about this, the same way Broadway World and Playbill congratulate anyone who ever appeared onstage in NYC when they get a Golden Globe, Emmy, or Oscar nomination.

Sure, but I doubt hardcore horror fans will care about a Broadway show she's in. There are great sales for this all over the place including TodayTix. They have done no promotions or events like The Lost Boys just announced. As creative as this team is, they need to get it together and have some fun events.

I’m honestly baffled by how worked up some forum members are getting over a harmless stage parody that’s only running for 16 weeks. As someone else on this thread wisely pointed out, this isn’t Medea or Oedipus Rex.

I'm annoyed by this new casting.
Because I was thinking I could avoid it, but now with Layton joining it's a must for me.

According to Broadway Journal, the estimated breakeven is going to be $993,000 per week.
As much as I would hope some of that capitalization money would be seen on stage in the production itself, it sounds a lot more like salaries and royalties.

I'd like to see a breakdown of the weekly song licensing fees. .

Can we talk about Eva Price for a sec? Lol. There’s some shady business going on with her production company, MEP. Look into the producers fees.

I have seen the show several times off Broadway. Had no plans to see it again. But with Melissa’s casting, I am absolutely going back. I’m happy and excited for her. She is a musical theatre nerd and talked openly about it on press tours of Scream and In The Heights.

- Eva Price, probably.

I was at a Q&AMelissa Barrera did for the obscure movie Your Monster back in 2024, and basically out of nowhere, she started talking about how much she wanted to be cast in a Broadway musical."

Melissa Barrera actually is a fairly big name and she was the main protagonist of the rebooted Scream franchise until being unjustly fired for speaking against the genocide in Palestine. Will her casting sell a ton more tickets? Maybe, not that it really matters much for a short run. Calling her casting “****ty” is frankly rude and shows how out of touch some of you are. Just because you’re decrepit, old, and don’t know anything doesn’t mean she’s a “no name,” quite the opposite actually.
Wouldn’t be surprised if some of the negativity here has to do with bias. Regardless I’m glad a very talented actress and activist on the right side of history is staying booked and busy, while you stay mad.

Both Melissa and Jenna were among the worst things about the recent Scream movies for me. That said, i did like Melissa in In The Heights, so maybe musicals are where she shines.

I personally have no idea who she is but taking a quick google search this is clearly their attempt to get some kind of name and I suspect she’d sell a lot more tickets than a genuinely no name off broadway actor. Alex E has just 8,000 instagram followers. Melissa has over 1 million. If I were a producer I know which one I’d bet on having a greater box office impact (which judging by the advance sales or lack thereof in a very large theatre with a closed balcony, they need it).

Gotta love the irony — calling someone rude by being rude AND disrespectful.

You’re mean. Also, I’m 43, not “old and decrepit.” I wasn’t aware she was in the rebooted Scream franchise - I imagine most people are not. I was actually expressing sympathy for Alex Ellis, who I imagine feels cheated and hurt. But honestly, I don’t really care about this production either way.
You, however, seem quite mad about something. I hope you are able to figure out how to better manage your rage, because there is no reason to attack people like that.

Melissa has been in two screams movies and other than that really nothing thrilling at the box office. You can also find her at autograph conventions. The reason to see this is Deborah Cox

All I know is that this production must’ve paid her some MAJOR coins for her to forgo her usual tour of concerts every year during Pride festival season.

We may end up seeing a few “out” dates so those lucrative concerts can go ahead.

It is worth noting that Layton Williams was previously set to play Molina in the upcoming U.K. tour of Kiss of the Spider Woman, but backed out because "an opportunity arose that I simply couldn’t turn down." Turns out it was this.
