What people really want is an actual Titanic Musical based on the movie. Jason Schmidt as Jack and Solea Pfeiffer as Rose? Could also see Ariana Grande playing Rose. I think if you got a great songwriter and had a massive budget, this could be a Broadway hit everyone would want to see the Titanic sink live on stage, and Broadway is ready for a new epic romantic les-mis style score, which we haven't had in a long time. Titanique is a joke and an insult to fans of the movie! GIVE US THE REAL THING

The industry needs to look at how it builds musicals and focus on rewarding good creative - smart budgets and good creative that is given lead time will win. That is what is working for the most part. Big IP that doesn't earn its keep creatively will keep failing. Not brain surgery.
Sutton Ross said: "The producers? They don't care to understand that no one wants this on Broadway, it won't sell, and noneof the names floating around matter. This season was so light they decided to bring bombs in to pay rent, and it's a very short-term solution to all of Broadway's problems."

I don't necessarily want to stake my hopes for the future of the industry on landlords self-producing and developing their own work (if landlords are the "they" you're referring to?). Yes that worked for Jacobs & Shoenfeld and Rocco Landesman when they took over at Shubert and Jujamcyn respectively, but those were different times.
I would like to believe this season is a cyclical blip, and that the next few years will be more fruitful. We're in a lead-time moment for a lot of shows. Part of the pipeline issues are that the vast majority of nonprofits in America cannot afford to mount a musical without commercial enhancement money. Which means their role in incubation is different if they are waiting for shows to come to them from producers, and it limits outside-the-box thinking.
I'm also not confident that all these announced shows will get their money together.

No, sorry, you are correct - I wasn’t opting for more landlord producing - that is a monopoly we don’t need. But the landlords pick the shows and control the output. I was suggesting more attention on identifying creative that works that also has solid budgets and giving those shows long leads to build their campaigns.

Curious...you actually seem to have inside info! Which shows this year are you thinking will either not come in because of their raises and which ones will get bailed out by one investor or a theater owner? Ala Lempicka

Frankie Grande posted on social media that he had cervical spine surgery. He mentions he will spend the next 4 weeks recovering. Assuming Titanique begins rehearsals in February, he might be able to be recovered in time, but I’m not so sure.

If these producers are smart (a BIG leap of faith considering they are making this move in the first place), they'll stay clear of Frankie Grande. I'm sure there are far more people that he would drive away from attending than there are "fans" would buy a ticket to see him.

THE CODE IS TQFAN
UGH. Why does Jim Parsons get so much work! He's the same in everything he does. BORING
Who's being rumored for Rose, Cal, and the Iceberg?
Assuming Carrie, John, and Jaye make the transfer?
Frankie Grande’s casting means I’ll be staying far away from this transfer. Bummer.
Ah, yes - the greatest comedienne of our time, Deborah Cox.
As someone who loved the off-Broadway run, everything about this remounting screams mess so far.
These prices are insane, too.

Dull dull dull casting. At least there's Marla to breathe some life into this.

Other than Marla and Constantine, this casting is AWFUL. What a shame.

forking over big $$$ to have Parsons & Cox join this limited run flop is bizarre.
It’s giving chop.
I was not expecting Deborah Cox in this
I couldn't do it. I was ready to, but I couldn't get tickets. I wanted to support this show because I saw it off-Broadway twice and loved it, but I can't. Maybe when they start offering huge discounts.
And the fact that most of the seats (especially the good ones) are not even available for purchase. I hate that producers do this for every show.

I didn’t see her as Molly Brown initially. I thought she was gonna play the Iceberg. If anything, I want Avionce Hoyles back as the Iceberg because that boy can SAAAAANNNNG!
Re: Parsons - I’m wondering if this is his moment to lean into full tilt camp for once. I think he might surprise us.
Marla is the reason to see this show. The “stunt”
casting does nothing but increase the budget. Cox is so lackluster and not a comedienne. I’d have preferred Missi Pyle.
Thanks for posting the code. Just got my tickets for Sunday, April 26th, evening show. Looking forward to seeing it again.
