Someone mentioned Zendaya would be great - I noticed she’s been absent from awards season this winter (she just won the Golden Globe on Tuesday and she won the Critics Choice last night - not there to accept either award). Could it be because she is involved with this?
Janelle Monáe or Keke Palmer would both be ideal and would sell tickets (especially if one or both gets an Oscar nom next week)

I was wondering if she was filming Dune.

Dune apparently wrapped filming in December and is currently in post production (according to Variety and IMDB).
This is 100 percent beneath Zendaya right now.

I’m sure we will find out tomorrow as the Lyceum is now officially vacant

If she wasn't 20 years too old. I'm not sure how old the play establishes her as, but Ma is 26 in the book and 24 in the movie. It's pretty important to establish that she was kidnapped as a teenager and is a young mom. I definitely want to see Kerry Washington back on a Broadway stage sometime soon and can do incredible things, I just don't think she can come close to pulling off 25.

When will this be announced? I’m surprised it wasn’t today
"Can Kerry Washington pull this off?"
I've read the book and seen the movie but know nothing about the stage show and what changes have been made besides what is in this thread.
But the role of Ma's mother - played by Joan Allen in the movie - perhaps that could be an age appropriate and worthy role for Kerry Washington?

Brie Larson*
And I don’t see any Hollywood type people touching this show unless they just really want a chance at a Tony.

Brie Larson played Ma. Joan Allen played her mother.

Does anyone know what the production design looks like for this show? Does it basically tell the whole story the movie did?

Here's a couple of videos from the Toronto run. Also, we have no design team announced, so I think it's safe to say, it could always be different than what is here.
Trailer
Song in Rehearsal
Making of Room (from regional theatre that co-produced the show before Toronto)

We have no anything announced! The BWW “article” was just pulled from a casting notice, which could be optimistic of the producers. We don’t even know if they have a theatre.

Adrienne Warren is starring.

Previews April 3rd, opening April 17th at the James Earl Jones. Limited run through September 17th.
Very exciting! I hope this means the Lyceum will be getting at least a little bit of a renovation since there doesn't seem to be a show scheduled there.

What a curious project... its road to Bway seems a little unconventional and rollout, too. Are these somewhat newer producers?
Different logo too, so maybe a different design/approach?

The logo –– the design of which is overseen by the commercial producer for the Broadway production (which is a different producer than the Canadian production) –– has NOTHING to do with the physical design of the show. Many a show changes their advertising creative on the way to Broadway.

The two lead producers seem to be UK based.

This is another production that makes me say ‘why’? It has already been done as a very depressing award winning movie. Why pay Broadway prices to see it live? Have to admit that it’s depressing qualities got to me more than I would have expected, so it won’t be on my list in any scenario.
Financially, it sounds like a loser too. If Audra Mac D cant sell enough tickets in a well reviewed show that was not already a movie, and so many dramas did abysmal at the box office this season, I don’t get it.
