How would you rank and/or rate (one to five) the various men who have played The Emcee in the broadway revival?
Oh, you did not!

Oops, I just replied in the other thread. Sorry.
Here ya go. First three: Alan, Raul, and Michael.
After those three who were my favorites, I've never really thought about rankings. I thought Adam did an admirable job. I like Adam a lot onstage, both in musicals and his concert work. He's a talented and very personable performer. When it was announced he was going to close Cabaret, I couldn't really imagine him as the Emcee but he did impress me. Of the others, I guess I'd say that Neil Patrick Harris was probably next on my list, then Adam and Vance Avery, Robert Sella was good as was Matt McGrath. Jon and John were probably at the bottom of my list. Hmm, did I miss someone?

Governor! *hides*
Ew, wasn't that Neil Harry Patrick (aka the Doogster) an Emcee once?

Hm, Adam didn't even make erinrebecca's list.
And I do want to hear about people BESIDES Adam. I really did not create this thread for the purpose of discussing him alone.

Yes, I did discuss Adam, insomniak. And Tiff, yes, Neil Patrick Harris was the Emcee and he was good. When I saw him, I thought that I'd like to see Anthony in that role but alas, it wasn't to be.
ahhh, Anthony would be amazing. And I heard great things about NPH, but I don't know.
I'm reluctant to give my opinions... I know my own personal biases are too much in the way.
LOL Yeah, erinrebecca, I know NPH was in. I was just mangling his name to get a reaction from Gov Slaton. Which seemed to have worked. I think his absence is due to him falling off a chair and concussing his head.
I only saw Cabaret once with the bway tour in 2002 and I was very, very disappointed. The cast was extremely weak.
Never saw Alan Cumming, but even from the cd he has captures your attention from the beginning. Even from recording I can agree he is the top two. I Matt McGrath do the revival and thought that he was much stronger in the second act. He was much better at playing the strong silent type who lurks in the shadows than the raunchy and forward type who also lurks in the shadows.

I can't believe I forgot him but yes, I did see one more Emcee. Norbert! And he was fantastic. I must be losing my mind to have forgotten him. :)
Who was in the cast, Tiff?

I believe Emcee was Michael Brown - who was good. The rest of the cast was totally unmemorable. I believe it was the original tour if 2002, so if the website serves me correctly, it was Amy Downing as Sally and Lucy Sorlucco as Fraulein Schneider.
I just saw Adam. I liked him better in that role than his roles in both Aida and RENT. I just thought he fit the whole creepy mysterious bisexual character. That sounds bad, but it's true. That and it was nice hearing him speak with an accent :)
i only saw 2 different emcees - so solely based on who i've seen - i don't know i mean i love adam pascal and i liked the way he played the part but it was very different from how jon secada did it - i personally liked adam's way b/c i mean, c'mon, he's adam, but i've heard jon was a bit closer to alan cumming - who, for those who saw him is usually the favorite
Jon. Was. Tragic.
<-- still not giving her full opinions.
Toby (from Human Nature) in the Australian tour was absolutely fantastic!!! I would give him a 4/5, but i dont have anyone else to compare him on
Wasn't Michael C. Hall from SFU in a production?
Here's my opinion:
Alan Cumming - 5++++++++++
Vance Avery - 5
Raul Esparza - 4
Michael Hall - 3
Neil Patrick Harris - 4
Matt McGrath - 5
Adam Pascal - 4
John Secada - 2
John Stamos - 2
I guess that answered my question.
I saw Neil Patrick Harris in it and didn't mind him. I thought he was good. Deborah Gibson actually wasn't all that bad either. Didn't enjoy her lisp...BUT we won't talk about that.
Alan Cumming....I cried through the entire show when I saw him in it simply because I was just so overwhelmed by him,,,he was so good it was out of control. No one has ever been that disgustingly beautiful and perfect in a role....ok I need to calm down!
Raul Esparza....His "I don't Care Much" ....Dear GOD! AMAZING...haunting....just insane. And he was funny, and creepy and really made a wonderful effort to make it his own with out making it something ridiculously inappropriate.
NPH: I really really thought he was very very good, and I have to say another "I Don't Care Much" that just rips your heart out throws it on the ground and does a dance and leaves you speechless...it was incredible. But he was an A$$ at the stagedoor so sometimes it's hard to remember how talented he is :) Oh Doogie...so misunderstood!
Jon Secada was PAINFUL in Cabaret. I will argue that until my dying day -- except I don't think its much of an argument. I rarely say a performance was truly miserable --but this is an exception.

My first live Cabaret experience was ruined by the Emcee (the Sally too for the matter) I saw...No names...
As far as I was concerned only 3 really did anything for me in that role.
Alan, Raul and Matt Mcgrath.
