Thought Kurt's Rose's Turn was pretty lame . . . . honestly, his "House is not a home" is a MUCH better representation of what a great singer he is. I thought THAT was brilliant, and Rose's Turn was a stretch.
Lame? A couple of people here sound green enough to audition for Shrek. The kid was brilliant and he won The Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series last night just as Kristin Chenoweth will win Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series.

If you mean envious of how he sang it, not at all. The CONCEPT was a stretch AND not a good fit for him. He IS pretty brilliant in Glee, but Rose's Turn wasn't one of those moments (IMHO). I don't blame him for that, more that the choice of the song wasn't a wise one by the creative people and how they adapted it was lame.

Oh, god, don't engage with amoni2. It exists only to nag and point its finger at everyone else.
have no clue who amoni is . . . not interested in the drama, just stating my opinion . . . and I HOPE it's O-preciated!

As was pointed out in the other thread, his line about "Where would you be, Miss Rachel Berry" was out of place and had no link to what he was singing about.
^it just fit syllable-wise
and his "rendition" just raped one of my favorite sondheim-isms
Rose's Turn is currently in therapy. ARE YOU HAPPY RYAN MURPHY?

Yeah, it made no sense. He was singing about his father, after all.

It should have been:
"Just look what you've done, Mister Finn Hudson"
Yeah it doesn't really fit musically, but it makes more sense in the context of the song. And the actor that plays Kurt could have made it work.

His house was not a home was really good cause it fit his voice. Rose's Turn is so iconic and so analyzed, of course his version is going to be dissected, quite harshly because people love this number because its brilliant.
In terms of voice, he is not a belter. This is a belt song. The lyrics got a little ridiculous. It was cute. The scene after his song was very good.

..."and if it wasn't for me, then where would you be, Miss Ryan Murphy"?
I thought it was a little embarrassing to watch. The acting was just fine I guess, but the song sounded way too big for his voice. I really enjoy him on the show--he and the girl playing Mercedes are the only two kids who are interesting to me--but it was not a great moment for him; though a valiant attempt (aided, of course, by gratuitous over-production, as always).
I liked last night's episode.
I think Glea Michelpheba's character should get laryngitis more often.
Personally, I LOVED it! I think it is great how a song such as Rose's Turn can be adapted in this way for use on a TV programme. For a large majority of the audience it will be the first time they have ever heard the song.
Performance wise, I enjoyed it. However, the "Miss Rachel Berry" part was completely out of place and bad. It was disappointing.
Did anyone think, "they're already doing 'Rose's Turn,' at this point? If you're going to use an iconic number, shouldn't the context be persuasive and the stakes a bit higher? I agree with PalJoey, the scenes with the father are the high point. The song, cheaply shoehorned in, didn't serve the character or the moment. A waste, alas.
Sorry, to me that number belongs to Miss Jane Lynch. SHE is the Rose of the show, after all.
I thought it was the best number of the episode. During the first part, Kurt just oozed with real emotion (something sorely lacking in this show). And the scene with the father afterward had me in tears.
I don't know why so many people are so down on Kurt. I thought he did a fine job singing "Rose's Turn". I'm sure when all of us were teenagers, we wanted to sing this up on stage (LOL! I just remembered that I actually did do this when I was in high school. I was more of a techie guy, but we all took a break from building sets for a show, most of the other students left to get food, and I decided to bust out into song). And I'm sure that a bunch of us would have sounded no better than he did back when we were teens.
Actually, the only part that I didn't like or get was the "Where would you be, miss Rachel Berry" line. It's not like he helped her get into the glee club, or that she retained the "makeover" that he did to her a few episodes back. I don't know what they could have substituted in there instead though. Finn? His dad?
Well I liked it. You can pick it apart all you want - and obviously delight in doing so - but I thought he did a fine job and that it fit the moment well. The kids got some chops. And the follow up scene with his father was wonderful.

People are getting on Kurt not because of Chris but because its Rose' Turn. It is too iconic not to be dissected.
While Miss Rachel Barry was misplaced, I don't think anything else would have worked without changing the song a lot. And if that happened, everyone here would be criticizing that! :)

Didn't like the lyrical edits, but I thought it was good. I actually liked to hear him sing with a little more power, because his soft style of singing kind of unnerves me. (Not that it's bad, it's just...unnerving.)
I didn't mind the lyric changes at all (minus the "Rachel Barry" part). It's not annoying like changing "Boy" to "Girl" but they changed the lyrics to work with the situation, and I thought it was done beautifully (again, minus that one part)
