Happy trails to one of the most thrilling shows of last season.

Nicole goes into the history books today. I bet she holds home as close to a minute as possible.

Seeing this for the 9th? (I think) time today. So happy and sad to see the final performance. What a thrilling production. I am so glad to have seen this so many times. Can’t wait to hear Nicole sing this score one last time.

also just got back from London and saw Evita - also INCREDIBLE

THRILLING production. Congrats to everyone involved. Crazy how much money such a great event lost.

A true highlight of my theatregoing life to date. A musical I don’t really like, starring a pop singer I have no attachment to, directed by someone I hadn’t enjoyed productions of prior somehow created magic together in one of the most purely thrilling productions of any musical I’ve ever seen.

I find the conversation about it being uniformly confounding to people who don’t know the musical or movie already odd. Tastes vary, but I saw the show with two separate people - one of whom is very new to seeing theatre period - who had no prior knowledge of it either way. They both walked away absolutely rocked by it, as I was every time I saw it. It doesn’t have to be for everyone, and I think it would do badly on tour without Nicole at the very least, but I’m so very glad we got it here in New York for as long as we did.

TV ALERT:  Nicole will be the guest on 'The View' tomorrow morning (7/21) at 11 am EST.  I'm sure it will be an interesting interview - especially on where she goes from here.

This was bonkers but in a good way - anecdotally of course. If I had been seeing the show for the first time I probably would not have been able to follow because of how overstimulating the entire experience was haha. Reddit is saying there was a few removals in the Mezzanine but I did not notice anything from the Balcony.

The energy was palpable for the biggest moments - plenty of standing ovations and applause breaks for the more iconic lines, even. Most of the audience was on their feet and applauding through the second half of Goodbye.

That said, the more intense moments were very intimate and quiet which I was worried about. From the entire last 15 minutes of the show when Joe is killed you could’ve heard a pin drop and when she finally hit her closeup it felt like an air vacuum had been released and people could let loose with the applause. It was a really cool moment.

Nicole gave a very… on-brand speech at the end of the show lol.

Caught a video of the final moments. Jamie Lloyd preceded Nicole with a speech of his own.

At one point, an audience member yelled out "Come back [to Broadway], Nicole!" to which she then responded, "It's not a comeback, it's a return." :)

We'll miss you, SUNSET!

I am glad I saw the show (again) earlier this week for a more “normal” goodbye with a calmer audience, because I know this one would be loud as hell. Sometimes in a great way, sometimes in a distracting / obnoxious way. But I expected it.

Regardless, it was an unforgettable afternoon. This show holds my personal record for most revisits, and for good reason. There isn’t much to say that hasn’t already been said, but I will miss this production dearly. Nicole’s performance is chiseled into my memory. Today was the strongest I’ve seen her - and that’s saying something.

Any idea why a family in the first row of the mezzanine was ejected midway through Act Two…?

Some posts on Reddit including one person who was unfortunately involved with the incident.

apparently two people were chatting and using cellphones in act 1. After being reported, they verbally assaulted the person who reported them and even deliberately took selfies so they could have photos of that person (who reported them to an usher)

Glad they were removed by security.
Once again, those “I-can-do-whatever-i-want” people should probably stay in their living room to do whatever they want.

The entire audience leapt to their feet and stayed standing for the rest of the song. It was truly electric.

All these reports confirm my belief that audiences are completely ruining live performances nowadays.

The entire show has been available for quite some time now. And in an almost pro-shot looking capture.

With Surrender before it was cut in half? I didn’t realize. I knew there was a London video out there but thought it was with all cuts.

Somewhere in the 1,641 posts there was a statement about how Joe Gillis, after he is shot and killed, leaves the stage. As I recall it was stated his exit was a bit significant. I saw this 3 times, and I did not see how this happened nor was I able to and figure this out. Now that it closed, I don't think the answer would be a spoiler.

Thanks for any input !

He walks off the stage during the blackout?

The actor leaves the stage during the blackout. I don't think we're supposed to interpret it as the character leaving (it's implied that he's there, dead).

I saw this production a total of eight times, including the matinee on 7/19 and the finale on 7/20. It's my second-favorite score of all time, and I would've bought my tickets just to hear the orchestra. Jordan Donica is an absolute powerhouse who, for me, all-but stole the show from Nicole Scherzinger. My only complaint was with the audience, who began to scream and whoop and carry on long before any of the leads got halfway through the big notes. I'm as appreciative of the talent as anyone, but why can't people let the performers actually sing their lines before yelling and screaming to drown them out?

This is exactly why I did not attend the final performance. I love an appreciative audience but I just knew this was going to be too over-the-top for me. I last saw the show 9 times, lastly on July 5th and it was a practically perfect experience so I decided to leave it there.

In my mind, this Sunset revival is as important as historic revivals such as the Sam Mendes Cabaret. Nicole’s performance is as groundbreaking and historic as Jennifer Holliday in Dreamgirls, or what I imagine to be judging from the CD and associated chatter Ethel Merman in Gypsy, or Bernadette Peters in her various shows or Patti in Gypsy. Feels like we have truly been part of and witnessed history.

At Nicole’s curtain call she explained emotionally she is living proof you should never judge a book by a cover.

When Nicole in Sunset was announced I sarcastically posted ‘whhhhhhhy?’ on this forum. I was completely and utterly wrong. Jamie Lloyd and Nicole S schooled me to never judge a book by its cover. They literally taught me new ways to dream.

"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022) "Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009) "Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000

To be clear, I fully expected this behavior at the last performance, and I attended because I knew it would be an event for the books, like the Phantom closing. However, I certainly would not have been happy if this had been the first and only time I'd seen the show. To me, screaming and whooping while someone is singing (as opposed to after they've finished) is downright rude to both the performer and the rest of the audience.
