Where does she say this?

Jackman dropping out of the production now is basically denying employment to everyone involved with that production. He is THE reason why the showis happening. I think it would be far worse for the people involvedif Jackman dropped out.

We will probably get to a point where Rudin refuses his stake in the production or directs it towards charities (and that is probably where Hugh comes into play as leverage); that doesn't stop some of his longtimeenablers from profiting, but this is nevergoing to be a perfect situation. And there are a lot of people with blood on their hands in this industry who don't even have an association with Rudin."

You’re right, there are a TON of people with blood on their hands which is exactly why Bush, Joey Parnes, Sue Wagner, and John Johnson can’t take over. Can’t, cant, can’t. Horrid people. Horrid.

I feel terrible for Kevin. Shame on Rudin. Shame on his enablers.

I still think Beetlejuice was on the way out, despite it doing better at the box office towards the end of the run. What I will say is I love how if you are on TikTok or some of the other social media sites, a lot of "stan" are calling for no more revivals on Broadway, because of the Beetlejuice/The Music Man debacle.

We are really in a golden age of privacy violations. Roth has a private email read over his shoulder that is published without his consent. Rudin has his emails hacked at Sony and they are trawled through and made into news stories that paint him as a racist.

(And of course, not theater related, but the crowning achievement of privacy violations was the 2016 email hack of a certain Democratic campaign manager that was cheerfully and repeatedly reported on by the media whenever Wikileaks decided to release a batch.)

I do not like Rudin, but I am also not a two-wrongs-make-a-right type of person and I absolutely abhor when people's privacy is violated and used to smear them. Bob Roth is allowed to privately hate Karen Olivo if he wants, and he can be privately happy if she quits the industry. That is an absolutely fine opinion to hold, even if a lot of people disagree with it, and it is also a fine thing to privately send to someone else who probably dislikes her.

Any insight on Sam Mendes and The Lehman Trilogy? I know Hugh Jackman and Music Man are a big focus, but isn't The Lehman Trilogy around the corner as well? THR article stated Rudin and Mendes clashed - any word from him or that show?

Personally, a 3 hour play about 3 rich white guys (who were also slave owners and whose company later played a major role in our financial crisis), doesn't feel like the right fit in this current environment, but maybe that's just me. It might be an amazing show, I don't know. I haven't seen it, so I am admittedly jumping to conclusions. But mix what I assume it's about with Scott Rudin's backing in it, and it seems like a double whammy. That being said, Mendes might very well be a victim of Rudin's behaviour as well. I just find the story, the timing and one of the original producers enough to re-evaluate whether it's one to help relaunch Broadway. Tho I do agree with other's in stating that it's terribly unfair for a team of innocent people to suffer without a job to prove a point to Rudin.

If you think no one knows who you are, but you have credits like Roth does, you are wrong. And also maybe get a privacy screen on your phone. Even people who are relative nobodies have those.

He was in public when he wrote that email. For all we know the person who observed the email as it was drafted ust happened to look up and see it. It's the risk you take when you do things in public. My agency prohibits us from working while in-transit due to the classified nature of our work. It was just his bad luck that it was someone who was aware of the controversy.

Didn't mean it was illegal, just that it's unethical to spy on someone's phone and publish what you see. We've all been there, it's easy to fall into the trap of watching what someone types on a plane, but my point is: have some respect for other people's privacy.

Except my expectation is that the collective view on this would be "he does not deserve respect because of his wrongthink".

I didn't know if it was real or fake, just that it was incredibly questionable to spread something with absolutely no source attached and, if it was true, came via unethical means.

In terms of my general love of theatre, I think I saw at least 20 shows in 2019. I've seen all the Best Musical nominees prior to the Tonys for the past 3-4 years (Bright Star breaks that streak). I do post about those sometimes, though my opinion tends to fall into the majority opinion on those things, so my contributions aren't as meaningful. But when it comes to the pitchfork stuff, this place tends to be an echo chamber, so I'm here to present the other side. That's all.

As a side note, the suit against Ramasar was tossed out by a judge, Alexandra Waterbury is now being credibly countersued for three instances of domestic battery, and, years later, Ramasar is still the with the girl whose pictures he shared, and they seem to be as strong as ever. I'm feeling absolutely fine about defending him while the mob was losing their collective minds.

This is all too bizarre now! Someone sat beside him on the plane.. read his email me has broadcast it? And he didn’t even pretend to deny it?! I guess at least he showed some honesty there. What a dumb dumb. To even think those words to begin with, let alone put them in writing.

Someone took something that was private and shared it publicly without their consent. Sometimes that's fine and encouraged, other times it's utterly cancel-worthy. A lot depends on the victim's demographics. It's complicated.

Yeah, that’s an awful analogy. Both stories are about how toxic men hold power. Those who abuse their power by abusing or harassing or buddying up with people who do should have their power and privilege taken away from them. But okay, go on defending the privacy of terrible people.

I’m shocked Roth admitted to this at all, but I bet Disney was put under pressure to act swiftly.

There is an old saying that if you can keep a person talking, they will eventually give themselves up. I guess that's right. I wasn't exactly sure what your deal was but I had my suspicions. Now it's clear. No moral compass. The god you worship is the troll.

PS, with your newly found spare time, maybe do some research on privacy. Trolling works much better when it is accurately grounded.

PS #2 I was thinking earlier this afternoon that all of this is starting to cry out for an opera. Seriously, I was. And what's a good opera without a troll under some bridge?

We can agree that someone’s transcription of an email that was glanced at in public is a weird piece of evidence. Roth could have denied everything to the bitter end. But he didn’t and is taking the consequence. We should all be happy about people like him accepting consequences.
