The old cliché "it's a preview, they'll fix it!" is particularly hilarious this time, when they have had two workshops, a full rehearsal and tech period, and 30 years to write the damn thing.
Well clearly you have no idea how theatre works newintown since you can never fully get the show to where you and the audience are happy with it until you put it front of an actual audience.
Namo i love u but we get it already....you don't like Madonna
newintown, I think CARRIE is especially a case where the reaction of a 'real' audience is important. It is BECAUSE it has been 30 years, and the hype etc. from the original production that audiences in workshops etc may mislead the creative team into thinking the new CARRIE is great when really they are just excited to see any form of it on stage.
"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022)
"Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009)
"Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000
Oh songanddanceman, sweet little songanddanceman. I know that for some reason you adore this piece of dreck; and you really never do need to accept that IS a piece of dreck.
But to pretend that they will somehow magically turn a piece of dreck into a great show over the next 4 weeks? They have 12-step programs for that kind of thinking...

Don't talk down to me and be patronising , I’m a 33 year old professional who has worked in this industry for many many years so won’t be spoke to like crap by the likes of you.
I was simply saying that the comment about the show should be ready prior to going in front of an audience was stupid, and anybody with half of a brain would know that comment was stupid.

If you're going to be there tonight, please do report back. Some of us on the West Coast are depending on you folks to be our eyes and ears on this one!
If nothing else, this thread proves without a doubt that nobody in the running can touch songanddanceman2 for this year's Golden Pom Pom Award. Seriously, I have never seen a more dedicated cheerleader.
Namo, come on. Songanddanceman isn't being half as fanatical as many near-trolls are in defending preview threads. In light of the skepticism that I (and many others) feel about this production early on, it's healthy to have someone reminding us about the intentions of the production and the merits of that particular vision. I really appreciate the balance. Partially because I hope for the best.
Sorry to hear that there was no blood, but I was pretty sure that the change was an unfounded rumor. After that New York Times article, what director would want to go back with their tail in between their legs?
Any other thoughts LegallyBroadway? How did you like the show? Or rather...DID you like the show?
