I know Seussical and City of Angels are two of them (they shout out something at the exit music), as well as Cry-Baby (they shout out audience instructions, to hilarious effect). Of course, there's Gypsy, where Rose asks the orchestra "You like it?" and they respond with an enthusiastic "YEAH!"

How about Curtains where the conductor is practically a member of the cast.

We must have different Gods. My God said "do to others what you would have them do to you". Your God seems to have said "My Way or the Highway".
Jimmy: Brian? Brian Brake, the show's drummer: Yeah baby? Jimmy: Look...I'm gonna give you a count off and the rest of you fellas come on in when I tell ya.
How about in Chicago how Roxie interacts with the conductor?

I don't know if this counts or if this is even done in every production. But when I saw Cabaret years ago the onstage orchestra for "Willkommen" got up and got into the pit when the number was over.

The Emcee is very interactive with the Orchestra in Wilkomen. He licks them, and he humps them. It's awesome :)

Chicago is a very good introduction. The conductor even has a few lines in Chicago.
I'm a professional. Whenever something goes wrong on stage, I know how to handle it so no one ever remembers. I flash my %#$&.

It's not in the context of a conventional musical, but The Band in Passing Strange. There's alot of call and response chants, Heidi sings alot and she and the rest of the band interject during the show.
You're reminding me of people you hear at the movies asking questions every ten seconds, "Who is that? Why is that guy walking down the street? Who's that lady coming up to him? Uh-oh, why did that car go by? Why is it so dark in this theater?" - FindingNamo on strummergirl

I remeber the exit music of Drowsy Chaperone the orchestra would shout out "Toledo Suprise" on the breaks. Whether or not this is written in the script or they just did it for fun im not sure, it was cute though.
The Last 5 Years - I've seen the actress use the piano player during her audition song...
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

Speaking of "Mambo!" here's my absolute favorite video on YouTube. It never fails to give me chills and bring tears. Have you ever seen a more enthusiastic performance?? And these are just kids! Venezuela Youth Orchestra - Bernstein - Mambo
Anyone remember the 2000 revival of THE MUSIC MAN? Susan Stroman used the band in quite an amusing context! The overture is basically a playing of "76 Trombones," and since Paul Woodiel, the violinist, is in a very small string section (just him, one cello, and one bass), he opts to play the melody in slower 3/4 time ("76 Trombones" and "Goodnight My Someone" share the same melody), while the rest of the band rudely interrupt him every four measures with the traditional 6/8 feel, much to his chagrin. His playing becomes more and more florid, but he still gets interrupted. He's had enough by the end, so he devises a more virtuosic cadenza, only to get brought down once again by the rest of the band, this time playing the jazzy countermelody. Woodiel leaves the stage in a huff and walks into the pit. The rest of the band follows him after the overture is over.

When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain.
