Posted: 8/16/13 at 12:56amThere hasn't been serious incident there in two and half years, like 900 performances. And they've taken every incident very seriously. The show ain't going anywhere, no matter how loud and prolonged one yells into a message board, so let's just all simmer down and instead send positive thoughts to Mr. Curry.

I agree about positive thoughts to Mr. Curry! Hope he gets well soon and can get back to work!
I wouldn't be so sure about Spidey's longevity. If it's nut is 1.3 million it has been undershooting it a few times this summer and will only fall more once the summer ends. It may not survive the winter.

This is really terrible for the poor actor and I really hope that he heals quickly.
But... posts like 'this has to end now!' and the similar facebook comments underneath the article...really?

How long will it be before Broadway will be dimmming their lights to one of the cast?

From a July 1, 2011 Star Tribune interview with Curry:
"I have not been injured, knock wood," he said. "Safety is paramount for the show. There's an A plan, a B backup, all the way to H."

"Spider-Man hasn't has half the injuries incurred during Starlight Express. It's just the convenient whipping boy because so many resent the long preview period. I thought this fad was over a couple years ago."
As this message board didn't exist during the run of Starlight Express we'll never know for sure, but I don't think it would have gotten the pass you seem to be suggesting it would have gotten.

I don't know how anyone can read the description of what happened and not wince. The trap fully closed on dude's leg, and they had to break out a saw to cut a hole in the deck...that sounds very serious

PLEASE get your facts straight and don't make false comparisons! First of all, Cirque stopped the show and sent the audience home. Second Twilight Zone and The Crow were movies : no audience was there. Finally, I don't think Nathan's injury required hospitalization or the response of emergency personnel.

Posted: 8/16/13 at 10:26amAs long as humans strive to extend the boundaries of what is possible, there will be injury. My heart goes out to all those who have been hurt exploring their craft. However, this is not reason to shut down a show.

And we need to decide who is liable and who is suing whom first.

Cirque also cancelled performances for 17 days, and completely removed that portion of the show. That doesn't seem like it would be an option here though.
Sneding good vibes Mr. Curry's way.
