I was browsing around the American Son tag on Instagram and it seems Steven Pasquale has been out of the play for a couple of weeks now. Does anyone know what’s up.

I saw this last night and the understudy, Brian Avers, was on as Scott. He was fantastic but I couldnt help but wonder what the show would have been like with Kerry and Steven.
I didn’t realize he had been out for 2 weeks. I was told it was just this week. That’s unfortunate considering this is a 16 week run.

Brian Avers is a really good actor. No slight to Steve, but anyone who sees Brian won't be disappointed.
This seems really strange, as his name continues to be used in the ads. Is he ill? Has he left the show? He was great in play, saw it early in the run. Anyone know?
I saw this back on the 17th and he was out. I don't know if he's been out straight through since then, but Brian Avers was wonderful! I do wonder what Steve is like in the role and what the show is like between him and Kerry.

Is he shooting a film or television series? He’s almost constantly tweeting not that thats an indication of anything, but he doesnt seem seriously ill from the way he presents himself on social media. Its just kind of odd that the above-the-title star of a Broadway production would disappear from the show for weeks with no announcement.

A physical injury or vocal rest would both not affect one's social media usage, and are common reasons people are out of show without warning.

Sometimes actors reduce their social media profile when they're going to be out of a show for an extended period of time, like Steve Kazee with ONCE. But as I said, it's not an indication of anything. It's just strange that he's been out of the show for a few weeks without a word, and for a show that's closing soon.

I saw it a couple days later and he was out too. I think he has been out for a few weeks straight. If he were incredibly ill, I doubt he would use social media. How strange...

I’m just curious. Brian Avers is listed as the understudy for both Steven Pasquale and Jeremy Jordan. Since he seems to be on everyday, what happens if he gets ill or if Jeremy does? Would they cancel the show that day or would they have another unannounced understudy lined up?

Good question! I imagine they have someone else lined up by now.
It's odd that no official announcement has been made. For the star of a show to be out for any two weeks, let alone the last two weeks of the year, a huge time for Broadway, and no explanation to be given, is odd indeed. I hope he is OK.

Or not, Jordan just tweeted that he has a sinus infection, but would be going on anyway as Office Frog Voice:

I've seen the play 4 times (3 with Pasquale and once with Avers) and I personally preferred Avers's performance than Pasquale's. I hope Pasquale is ok though.

Kerry posted a year in review thing on her Instagram Stories and there was a cast photo from Dec 15 with Steven Pasquale in it. So it seems he left right after that.

I was excited to see Pasquale again (saw him in Robber Bridegroom), but were rushing the show on Saturday and Ill be happy to get tickets. To my knowledge Ive never seen Avers before so thats a plus. And Ive never seen Washington or Jordan before either.

I rushed this past Saturday 12/29 and I arrived at 9:10 and was 10th in line. By the time the box office opened, there were about 10 people behind me. I got Orchestra D14 which was far right but I didnt feel I missed anything.
Also the theater had lots empty seats at curtain time.
A friend is a Tony voter and she was told that he'll be out of the show the entire week but back next week.
Three weeks off total, no announcement on Telecharge or from him. Hmm.....
I love Steve and would have been pretty upset to attend any time during the past few weeks and find an understudy. He continues to post several times a day on Twitter, so is probably not ill, but is perhaps working on a film or some other project...still, it seems very odd. When a star is out "on leave," Telecharge always announces it on their site. Not a word.
Yeah that is odd. His name is above the title so patrons are entitled to a refund if they wish. I saw Avers perform back on Dec 11th so I know Pasquale was out that day (Tuesday). I saw the play again a few days later with Pasquale in it and I felt Avers had a bigger stage presence than Pasquale that worked better for the play.
Anyway, I hope Pasquale is ok but I do wish telecharge or the show would publish any planned absences.
I saw the play in the beginning of December with Pasquale and found his voice rather distracting. He sounded like a radio news announcer, like Bill McNeil from Newsradio. am interested in seeing Avers in the role.
To be out for 3 weeks of a 16 week run with no explanation is not good.

How does one prove the other? Leading causes of people missing shows are illness, injury, and vocal rest... none of which would prevent one from tweeting.
I imagine their silence is partly because Pasquale isnt really the big name of the show, so they might figure it doesnt really matter. Anyone who happens to be a big fan of his can exchange if they want, but Im guessing most people are there to see Washington (or even Jordan, for that matter).
As for Pasquales reason for being out, I obviously dont know either. But I will say I saw him sporting a neck-brace while attending a show with Phillipa this past summer. Neck injuries can be really nasty and long-lasting, so its possible that its flaring up again. Especially since his role in this show requires one very physical scene.
This is pure speculation, of course. I dont want to start any rumors - Im just throwing that out there as an educated guess.
