I did a small survey for tickets around the most well know cinemas in London and most of the screenings (at ODEON, Vue, Cineworld) are nearly half full or 1/3 full. That's the opening weekend!!!! Btw presales for Spiderman No Way Home is tenfold. You will be lucky to find a seat for the opening weekend. I guess people are more interested in superhero, Star Wars or James Bond movies only. I have nothing against MARVEL movies btw, some of them I enjoy myself. And obviously I don't expect WSS to have the commercial/commotion and ticket sales number impact of those other films but come on man, seriously!? Why can't people embrace great filmmaking, regardless of the genre and type (art or blockbuster).
Sorry, I thought of venting, that's all."
Pre sale belongs to Marvel and big Disney properties now pretty exclusively. It's just what it is.
I hope this movie has box office success but in this post pandemic climate there is genuinely no way of knowing how it will do in theaters.
If it's really beloved it probably will find the best success when it comes to streaming.

At least it gets the love from the industry and the critics (95% on Rotten Tomatoes). That's the type of feedback that usually gets you the recognition in major film award ceremonies, not always (Best Picture 1999) but it helps.

Thanks for any advice. :)"
I suggest as far back as possible. Center is ideal but aisle is perfectly fine too. Enjoy!"
Thanks @TotaalyEffed. I had a feeling that was the way to go. Going to go the first show on Friday. I have been playing the music on replay all day. :)
"I hope your Fanny is bigger than my Peter."
Mary Martin to Ezio Pinza opening night of Fanny.
The film adaptation of DEAR EVAN HANSEN is nothing but a blur. The industry accolades and extensive media coverage on all platforms WEST SIDE STORY is receiving has left DEAR EVAN HANSEN in the dust.
I was surprised to see when I checked Metacritic tonight that WSS made nearly none of the professional film critics’ Top 10 Films of 2021 lists. (I only see it on The New York Times A. O. Scott’s list). Maybe that’s due to it being screened for film critics relatively late and in order to have their lists ready to go to print, most critics already had to have their lists complete prior to attending their screenings? Of course, as more lists are published, they’ll be added to the site so we might see if pop up more often on lists.

Most of these critics' reviews for WSS came out last week and their top 10's came out a few days later. They had the chance to include it. If they didn't, it's not due to a lack of love for the movie, their reviews showed that they cared for it a lot. Many critics now use their top 10 lists as an opportunity to give more attention to a film they loved that hasn't gotten as much public notice (Red Rocket, CODA, The Lost Daughter, even Oscar frontrunners like Licorice Pizza and Power of the Dog have not been massively seen). Many, as well, make an effort not to include too many prestige "Oscar hopefuls" and make room for at least one unconventional choice (Barb and Star, Cruella). WSS is an Oscar hopeful with mass appeal and lots of public attention, so it could very well have been an 11th or 12th choice for many critics, and just didn't quite make it to the final 10.

The one has nothing to do with the other. DEAR EVAN HANSEN crash landed as a movie and was left in the dust within two weeks of its premiere. It's the only one of the four musical adaptations released this year to have flopped so thoroughly.
I have tickets for my local imax screening of West Side Story for tomorrow, but I noticed something looked wonky online, and the show time seemed to disappear with no IMAX screenings listed for tomorrow night (it still showed up some places but would list an error if you clicked on it). My ticket is still in my account, but I called the theater and they said that the showtime is currently on hold, as a IMAX Kanye West concert was dropped on them on Monday, and it starts at 11pm EST, and they weren’t sure if the two movies would overlap, and they were waiting on word from the people who book the film. Something to be aware of as this might affect more people. West Side Story was set to start at 7pm, so I feel like overlap shouldn’t be a problem here

Since you don't say where you live or which theatre you're going to -- this doesn't really help anyone, does it?
