Has anybody heard about this? Is it a joke??

London, England ? Britain?s Got Talent contestant and YouTube sensation Susan Boyle is actually former Savage Garden frontman Darren Hayes in a fat suit, an anonymous source has revealed to several tabloid newspapers in London.

The bombshell revelation came as a simple handwritten note that said ?Darren Hayes is Susan Boyle. Don?t believe what you see.? The note was accompanied by a DVD containing what appears to be hidden camera footage of a man resembling Hayes ?changing? into Susan Boyle while singing ?I Dreamed A Dream,? the same song she sang recently on the hit British talent contest.

?We are taking it with a grain of salt, but the evidence is very compelling.? says The Sun?s Jon Gaunt. ?The man in the video, if that is indeed Darren Hayes, looks and sounds very similar to Susan Boyle.?

The video clip quickly made its way to YouTube but was taken down just as swiftly by YouTube personnel, following threats of legal action from Darren Hayes? camp. The Australian singer has yet to release an official statement regarding the matter, and attempts to contact Susan Boyle directly for comment have been unsuccessful, causing speculations to fly all over the Internet.

Many fans believe that the pop star has been inspired by the antics of American actor Joaquin Phoenix, who has recently ?switched? to a rapping career and displayed odd behaviour publicly. Rather than follow a similar path, Hayes chose to embody the essence of a 47-year-old perky virgin from West Lothian, Scotland who could sing really well.

?I have seen the video and have no doubt it?s Darren. He is a devious prankster at heart,? says Devon Laitmark, 25, on a Darren Hayes fan forum. ?The question is why? What?s the payoff??

Whatever it is, fans are lapping it up. Excitement is already building up for Susan Boyle?s next performance on the third season of Britain?s Got Talent. The contestant received a standing ovation after her performance of ?I Dreamed A Dream? from Les Miserables and is touted as a strong contender to win the title this year.

Sarcasm is an allergic reaction to stupid people.

I think the most emotional part was watching her realize her dream: to perform in front of an audience.

So many of us know the love that you get from a rush like that. That it could very well have been the highlight of her life makes it beautiful. Not a heck of a lot of us actually have our dreams come true...and certainly to have reality surpass those dreams is amazing.

Congrats to her.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

"You audition for the show producers before actually 'auditioning'. "

Are the three judges the producers? Is the audience made up of people who were at the pre-audition audition?

No, the producers will obviously have known that something of a surprise was in store. The necessary arrangements to film appropriately had to be in place, after all. But the audience won't have been privilege to that. And while Simon Cowell might have been, I don't think either Piers Morgan or Amanda Whatsherface (can't remember her name) were. And this lady WAS a surprise! When so many people do delude themselves, to hear the lovely voice emerge when all expectation was of the reverse, was a lovely moment. And for her to then walk off prematurely with her head held high, having achieved what she wanted to achieve was another nice moment in itself. Of course she will win the show! Apart from anything else, she is Scottish! And when the Scottish vote is infamous for some ludicrous travesties in public voting, it makes a dead cert of someone with a genuine case.

I wish her well, though! I think it is a lovely human interest story to have her achieve success at this point in her life. And she deserves it far more than the awful third rate failed opera singer Paul Potts who was miles away from being genuinely good enough for a professional career. That whole travesty was just a complete indictment of the general public who can't tell the difference between mediocre and good. At least this lady has real chops. The performance issue is something else, and who knows where she can go with it. But I think her life is going to be very different now, and all power to her for that.

Thanks, ladybegood. I should have quoted the rest of the message in which bubbleblond indicated that the reaction to Ms. Boyle's performance was rehearsed. That's what I get for rushing a response before heading off to work. re: Susan Boyle Sings 'I Dreamed A Dream'

I think it's great that after millions of years, the world has collectively realized that homely people can have talent too.

Legit ballad (I Dreamed A Dream) - Check

Sizzling jazz ballad (see below) - Check

Apparently not. Look at humbug's post- people can't believe someone who looks like Susan Boyle could be talented, it has to be a professional (read: attractive) singer in a fat suit!

And geez people, I thought *I* was cynical. Can't you just be happy this woman's wildest dreams came true insteading of b*tching about her technique?

"I think it's great that after millions of years, the world has collectively realized that homely people can have talent too."

This is what I have a problem with. Categorizing a person as homely.

But that's just the way of the world. That's why everyone is making such a stink over this. She's an overweight, not so attractive, older, possibly socially inept woman who can - OMG - sing!

caitlinette

You claim that you did not feel depth, prescence or emotion?

Well, apparently the audience felt all of that and then some. To see their changes in emotion and feeling was very clear to me that Susan Boyle possesses a HUGE amount of depth, prescence and emotion. Now that is what I call RANGE.

humbugs post on Susan Boyle's "looks" and her weight.

I suppose that a person has to be attractive and borderline anorexic in order to be believable on stage. Those female actors who need to show their ribcage bones and shoulder blades and sunken cheeks with a pale complexion and the damage and ravages of crazy dieting to "look good".

I think that Susan Boyle will build her appeal on her own identity and character traits, to include her looks. I think that she will probably have a little things done here and there but it IS her authentic self that will sell CD's and get her work on stage or on film/television.

In these days of Reality television, viewers are looking for realness and authenticity. Some artists go on without alot of training and vocal lessons and reach Tony, Emmy, Oscar, and Grammy Award winning careers. Alot of vaudeville acts never went to colleges or had much training but they ended up with great film careers, historically speaking. Stand-Up comics get their training in real life on real stages learning from audiences and defining themselves as they go along.

A successful actor/singer does not necessarily need much training to make it big IMO. Academy Award winner Jennifer Hudson did not win American Idol and she did not attend a major university and have a fine arts degree. She went to a vocational academy but got her training in her church singing just as Whitney Houston got her start in her church singing. It is once again called NATURAL TALENT.

Susan Boyle is creating her own style and brand. It is called Brand Strategy and the molding and shaping of her own natural ability. Yes, it is something to imagine if she had gotten an earlier start with her singing but she is to be admired for sacrificing herself and her years to care for her ailing mother. But, as the saying goes "Better late than never" and "Good things come to those who wait" and it is so true in her case.

That's a wrong way of the world. What you're calling her is your opinion, I guess. I don't happen to judge a book by its cover. And I don't think she's all that unattractive. I guess I've come across too many people who may surprise you by their appearance to pre-judge. I hate that the audience and judges made her know she was being made fun of. Hate it. I'm sure her feelings were hurt, but she just focused on the song. Good for her!

She's a curiosity and will be forgotten within a year.

All the authentic self talk is nice, but it's not reality.

I'm sorry you feel that way. As well as all the others who made fun of her.

"She's a curiosity and will be forgotten within a year."

Could be, but that is beside the point we're discussing.

Is it, though? And don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to be a dick or to be insulting to this woman, but this huge outpouring of public interest is most likely going to wane, and then where will she be?

[MamasDoinFine] Susan Boyle- the biggest and best kept secret in 'Brigadoon'!
That is laugh-out-loud funny.

Ok, she is not a complete and total FARMER from the sticks, because she knew enough to sing this show tune that was perfectly suited to her voice. If this is a performance from someone with no real training to speak of, then BAM! it is an enormous achievement.

I heard about this on the radio (driving to work), so I couldnt see her. The radio host made it clear that the judges were setting her up to be ridiculed by the audience, and you could hear their jeers and laughter, so it was obvious that she was a 46 year-old woman with unfortunate looks.

I dont recall exactly, but I think Simon or Piers asked her what singer she thinks she sounds most like, or wants to sing like, and she answered Elaine Paige, which caused the audience to erupt in derision.

Then she sang.

If we find that she has secretly had 20 years of vocal coaching, then, you re right, there s not that much ahead of her. But if this performance is the result of self-teaching, she absolutely deserves a chance to have some real development, because not all roles in musical theater are for kids in their 20s and 30s.

[Jane2] "I think if there was an ATTRACTIVE person singing that way, it would have had the same impact." -- Who are you to judge her appearance?

If you think that the people who hand out jobs in show business dont pay attention to APPEARANCE, then well, there is nothing to say, really. But, there ARE roles for people who look like her, see, that is how it goes.

I think the real point is that when you re older and modest-looking, there are not many opportunities for you to get your big break, no matter how talented you are. That is why these talent shows have so much appeal they seem to offer all of us nobodies a chance to be judged on the basis of our talent, because the goofier-looking you are, the more of a hot-property you are to show producers.

Why are all of my puncts turning into question marks?

Everyone should keep on mind that "I Dreamed A Dream" is certainly her best number, which is why she picked it to sing. So her next song (assuming there is a next song) won't be as good. Then everybody will move on to someone else.

She has technique problems--not that it's a problem right now, but could she handle 8 shows a week? I'm afraid her range would suffer eventually.

Jimmy, what are you doing here in the middle of the night? It's almost 9 PM!
