Saw Opening last night and definitely agree with these reviews. Play largely holds up and this production is solid. Some great performances.

These lean a bit more positive and generous than I would have expected, but I saw one of the first previews.. I would give it a solid B/B+ overall as a production.
These reviews are a perfect example of why no one should ever base their decision on whether or not to buy a ticket to a show that they’re interested in seeing on the views and opinions of the wannabe critics who post here. Beware of hidden agendas, personal grievances and sour grapes. Regardless of who it is, it’s just their opinion. And everyone knows what opinions are like. If a show interests you and you want to see it, don’t let others dissuade you. Buy a ticket and decide for yourself. Queue the posts about how the show and performances must have improved since they saw it in previews.

"These positive opinions are a perfect example of why opinions are just opinions!"
If you bothered looking at the end of the previews thread, the comments were already becoming more positive and it was already suggested the performances may have improved.
But I suppose this is a welcome change from the usual "Critics are a--holes!" "Jesse Green should be fired!" "So-and-so can't write!" posts that flood threads with negative reviews. Funny how positive comments, from critics or mere plebes, are all true and negative comments from the same is always proof how they--critics or plebes--can't be trusted.

Does anyone think or know if this might get extended? Thanks!

Also, important to note that many of these critics are white gay men which this play is targeted at. Reactions might’ve been different were the critical establishment a little more diverse. This is coming from someone who liked it too. It’s okay to take opinions and reviews with a grain of salt.

I asked the same question in the other Take Me Out thread and all I got was a b*tchy response, but I'm hoping it extends as well.

Unlikely to get extended more than a week or so because Kite Runner starts performances July 6.
Yeah, either a very short extension or not at all considering the leading men are all very busy and don't live in NYC.

All I need is literally just 5 more days!

I agree completely. ALL reviews, be they from wannabes or so-called professional critics, should be taken with a grain of salt. Especially, critiques of preview performances. The reason for my post is that I saw several people on the previews thread who questioned whether or not they should buy tickets for the show based on the negative comments. As a long-time member of this board, it is my experience that the comments and opinions of those here (especially those who run to see the first preview performances and can't wait to post their negative critiques and rip a show apart) are not an accurate indicator of whether a show is actually any good or not. And certainly not an indicator of my enjoyment of it.

You see what happens when you write to the company and ask them to extend? They are only too happy to accommodate these requests.

I saw this last night from mezz right, closer to the center aisle. View was great from up there. The theatre is so intimate and not very wide at all, so you shouldn’t have any issues.
For what it’s worth, I really enjoyed this production. I missed the original one and it’s been a good decade or so since I’ve revisited the play itself. I think this is a very well performed production and really solid in every way. The praise is deserved in my opinion. Take advantage of the extension and enjoy!
FYI, Audience Rewards has released their online redemption seats for every performance from 5/1 until closing on 6/11.

I was pleasantly surprised by this.
I went just to see what the hoopla was about (every gay guy in NYC has asked me if I was going to see it because...you know) and I left really taken by the play. Such a cool script and important story that truly begs for further thought afterwards.
And I have to say that I'm thrilled that the nudity is there and done in such an explicit way. It's such an important part of the story that shouldn't be cheated. I love how game the actors are. And they are very, very game.
This is extremely high on my list of favs this season. SO happy I saw it.
Oh! And Tony contenders, Jesse Tyler is a frontrunner in my book. Absolutely loved his performance. I think he has it in the bag for Best Supporting Actor. I also was thrilled by the sound design. Bray Poor really did his thing.
This is one to see.

I think history will repeat with Tyler Fergunson and Williams nominated alongside, with maybe JTF repeating O’Hares win. I really dont know what is Fergunsons competition as of now. Alfie Allen?

Well, going off performances alone, I'd think Chuck Cooper should be the frontrunner, but he might be at "closed show" disadvantage. I'd also love to see Austin Pendleton take the award. Personally I'd prefer either of those performances to win over JTF.
Idk, but Featured Actor in a Play looks like a hot race with Ferguson, Pendleton, Cooper, Sam Rockwell, and probably Patrick J. Adams (if he’s petitioned to featured - though that’s a little like category fraud to me).
There is such a wide swath of potential nominees that I could imagine the field could expand to six as it has in the past.
