The story of a traveling preacher’s wife who beamed into homes with a message of hope… and stole the country’s heart.
It’s the 1970s. As satellites broadcast brand-new cable programming into American homes, millions fall in love with Tammy Faye Bakker–the charismatic wife of pastor Jim Bakker. Together, they build a nationwide congregation that puts the fun back into faith. But, even as Tammy dazzles on screen, jealous rivals plot behind the scenes, threatened by her determination to lead with love.
Wrapped in a joyful and deliriously fun score that could only come from Elton John, with lyrics by Scissor Sisters’ Jake Shears, a book by Olivier Award-winning playwright James Graham, and directed by Olivier Award winner Rupert Goold, TAMMY FAYE shines a sparkling light on the generous, loving, often lonely soul behind the illustrious lashes. Reprising her celebrated West End performance, the divine cast is led by two-time Olivier Award winner Katie Brayben (Tammy Faye), two-time Tony Award winner Christian Borle (Jim Bakker), and two-time Tony Award winner Michael Cerveris (Jerry Falwell).
The new musical opens tonight, November 14, 2024 at the Palace Theatre!
I’m truly hoping at least one reviewer also saw it London and (if they enjoyed it more there) can explain the differences. It’s something I’m still trying to understand, myself.

But Jordan, haven’t you heard? They changed 40% of the show!
"...everyone finally shut up, and the audience could enjoy the beginning of the Anatevka Pogram in peace."

LOLOL. Having seen it again the other day, I’d LOVE for someone to actually detail those “changes”.

Maybe start by asking Michael Cerveris who documented this in his Insta feed....or maybe move on to a show you can appreciate rather than returning to one that you want to kick until it is dead?

Just my .02.”
What da are you talking about? Where have i “returned to kick anything?”
Oh honey, if you want classy you're pissing up the wrong fkn tree. And even having seen this show three times now, I have BARELY talked about it on here, besides giving my first preview thoughts and maybe one or two other posts.
There are people out there who haven't even seen the show who feel free to comment and tear a show down without giving it a fair chance. They worked really hard the past few weeks to make changes based on feedback and the least people could do is give a fair chance and see it with an open mind before commenting.
There are far worse shows on Broadway right now that don't receive this level of unwarranted hate from people who have not even seen the show.
I agree. I don't hate this show. I'm confused by it but don't hate it. I'd rather sit through this a thousand times than "Swept Away" once more. So getting mad at me for my posts about it is a little silly.

Oh please.
You posted on 11 Nov that you went back to see it and noticed that Act One was 9 minutes shorter and that Act Two was 8 minutes shorter.
21 minutes after posting that you said you posted "Honestly, I didn't notice anything different at all".

Hi! So I actually saw the show and I hated it very much, hope this clears things up!

You hated it before you saw it. Don't know why you even bothered.going,
For the record, Jordan is one of the most trusted posters on this board (and the fact that his posting history is public and bway1430's is not is very telling). He also gave the London version a rave, so if he says he didn't like the New York version (and has seen it multiple times) it likely says more about the show than him as a poster. Perhaps one's energies should be focused in that direction.

Yes, because spending money to see a show you already hate so you can go online to say you saw it and hated it is a thing people do.
"...everyone finally shut up, and the audience could enjoy the beginning of the Anatevka Pogram in peace."
Reviews aren’t even out yet and people are already upset, really?
Anyway, I hope somebody has a ocmprehensive grasp of what made the show great for London but the transfer to the USA a disaster.
Is it the audiences familiarity with the show? I enjoyed it because I wasn’t familiar with Tammy Faye (as I assume the UK audience was) but the couple next to me who were familiar with the story had been asleep by the middle of act one. After watching the documentary with Garfield and Chastian I can see why those who know this story think the musical isn’t good.
I still could see how Rannells and Borle could bring completely different vibes and energy to Jim Bakker, and he’s a key part of making the show and Faye’s story believable. Is this set very different from Londons (as in, it looks great viewed head on, but awful viewed from the sides).
Could this be the first “closing on opening night” show in years if the reviews are terrible? Those are the things I’ll be looking out for tonight.
