Does it feel like this is on the Dead Outlaw train? Strong WOM and sales off-Broadway with quick ambitions to get to Broadway only to be outshone by other musicals? Maybe it’s just the fact that Andrew Durand is in them both and that is why I am connecting the two shows but I struggle to see how this could possibly have any chance when Paddington and Warriors are coming in.

My relationship with this musical is an interesting one. I loved it when I saw it off-West End with Jamie Parker and then was really cold to it when I saw the West End transfer to The Ambassadors. So I was really surprised when I found myself very moved again by it down at The Public. I can’t make sense of why, but I’m very glad I took the chance to see it again.

Just leaving the matinee. What a beautifully moving production. I’m excited to go back in December and I hope it transfers or has a longer life elsewhere!

I too was at today’s matinee but sadly had quite the opposite reaction.
Many songs sounded exactly the same to me, and I found Durand to be rather bland in the lead.
I’m not sure if this survives in a larger Bway house, and certainly won’t give Paddington or Warriors any competition at Tony time.
