Now that the soundtrack has been released what does everybody think?
I’m actually quite surprised by Meryl’s vocals, she does a heck of a belt on her.

If you're referring to this, then yes, I agree.

The soundtrack has not been released yet. Unless you got an advance copy. It's still in "pre-order" mode. If that is correct. It's supposed to come out 12/4
The advance copy leaked about a day ago. They always do.
They all sound great and the new orchestrations are also great. So excited for this.

I figured it would, since I did not see any music services released it yet. Enjoy. Hope it is good!

I needed that after a bit of a stressful day. Thank you.

Um.
I like Meryl. 😀
Also, they replaced the line “Now let’s go help that D*ke” for Corden. “Now let’s go start a fight!”
I just downloaded the album and I’m listening to some select songs before bed.
The new orchestrations are really fantastic. The closest movie I could think of where the score got a full orchestra treatment while still keeping the integrity of the score was Hairspray,
Meryl is really shocking me here. “It’s Not About Me” is pretty damn good and you can here the ego and bombast of the character in her singing.
Kidman’s “Zazz” fell a bit flat for me. Her voice had too much whisper and not enough flair. I’m sure she danced it well though.
Rannells seemed on par with what I expected in “Love Thy Neighbor”, delivers with sass in the same way Christopher Sieber had an oddly paternal quality - different approaches, but both great.
Corden’s “Barry...Prom” was so-so - Brooks Ashmanskas was just so vibrant that even his recording had the palpable energy that was in the theatre.
Pellman’s “Unruly Heart” made me cry, and she sounds eerily similar to Caitlin Kinnunen, but a little softer.

I saw the movie tonight in a theatre. I was the only one there. I laughed, sang along out loud, and had an ugly cry at the end not just because of how much I love this show, but how much I miss live theatre. I cried for my friends who work in theatre who never know when they'll work again. Yes, it got sappy, but damnit I was the only one there.
The movie is great. Meryl is amazing. Corden is horribly miscast. The orchestrations sound terrific. I'm now re-listening to the soundtrack on Spotify.
This is exactly what we need to end 2020.
I’m listening to it now, but holy sh*t MERYL. Her “It’s Not About Me” is spectacular.
I was happy to hear they changed the tag for the reprise of “Changing Lives”. Wasn’t in the mood to hear J*mes C*rden I say the original line.
I feel like Kidman’s rendition of “Zazz” will pop once you have the visual.
Is "Simply Love" part of the movie or an end credits song? It comes at the very end of the album but feels like part of a new scene that wasn't in the stage show. Either way it's very pretty and is sung beautifully by James.
The whole album sounds great, with "Unruly Heart" being the highlight for me.

It sounds fantastic. Great orchestrations.
Methyl seriously impressed me I’m Not all About Me.
I’ll just skip the James Corden songs for my sanity.

Not a fan of that change. The original line always made me laugh out loud.

"How f*cking old do you think I am?" was one of the funniest lines in the show. Disappointed that they cleaned it up.

Yeah I agree. Especially with the PG-13 rating they're allowed one f-bomb. But maybe they used Dee-Dee's "You owe me a f*cking house" line, which is also pretty good, and I'd love to hear Meryl's delivery.

Also, on stage after “The Lady’s Improving,” Mr. Hawkins tells Dee Dee that “not charging someone for an apology is not a selfless act.” Her response: “Well, what the f**k.”
I too hope they made that cleaner and made the Hamptons house f-bomb their one usage.
For those who don't want to deal with an unclickable link.
All instances of “****” are cut for the film.
Onto my soundtrack thoughts now from my first listen:
New orchestrations are really good. The film soundtrack has more musical balance than the OBCR.
Corden slips in and out of his American accent repeatedly... he sounds no better than “okay,” and his casting seems like a misfire. JUSTICE FOR BROOKS!
I will never forget the show tried to rhyme “lesbian” with “thespian.” Reminds me of when Jason Robert Brown rhymed “Beyoncé” with “fiancée” for some reason.
The Indianans are no longer referred to as “...tea-bagging, Jesus-jumping losers and their inbred wives.” It is now “...finger-wagging, Hoosier-hopping losers and their homely wives.”
“Now let’s go start a fight!” I like this change, though I might’ve preferred something like “Now let’s go make things right!”
Pellman gets to show Emma’s softer side throughout, something I thought Kinnunen did not get to do so much on stage.
MERYL STREEP. Her two big numbers are everything. I would’ve loved if she had held that last note of “The Lady’s Improving” a bit longer though. I appreciate that she gave Beth Leavel all the credit in the world for helping her learn this role.
I approve of the cuts/new ending of “Dance With You.” Emma’s little “bye” to Alyssa foreshadows “Alyssa Greene” and I LOVE how both numbers now end unresolved.
Rannells sounds great! I think he’ll be better than Chris Sieber was on stage.
Key and Kidman both let me down a bit. Kidman is too soft and whispery in “Zazz,” and I think “We Look to You” in D major is a bit too high for Key’s register. Potts sang it better.
McCalla’s “Alyssa Greene” barely outdoes DeBose’s. A couple of minor line interpretations did the trick.
LOVE THY NEIGHBOR TRUMPS THEM ALL!
UNRULY. HEART. I might cry seeing this scene next week. Love the bigger buildup and C major modulation better than B’way.
”Build a prom for everyone...” Something tells me they’re already at said “built” prom in the movie (“And now we’re dressed up/You are a vision in aqua blue” is another altered lyric). Emma saying this does not make quite as much sense as the onstage version.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it once again: the end of “It’s Time to Dance” just feels so good.
“Simply Love” is a serviceable new song. It is here that Corden is at his best vocally despite some schlocky lyrics. Leagues better than “Wear Your Crown” though. I wonder what its context will be.
3.5/5 from me. Both recordings have their pros and cons, but they pretty much equal each other out. Is it next Friday yet?
There is no context for “Simply Love.” It is another song for the credits and does not take place in the action of the movie, which is why it’s placed after “It’s Time to Dance.”
