the house isn’t finished at the end…
there’s literally a joke “they haven’t even started building the east wing yet” and of course the big line “I AM NEVER GOING TO STOP BUILDING THIS HOUSE.” But of course Kad is showing his true colors here that he doesn’t actually go to the theater, just yaps all day here and spreads his platitudes around, it’s exhausting.
The glitzy and empty mansion at the end is a metaphor for money doesn’t make you happy. She ends up begging a random construction guy to hang out with her. I know a lot of you didn’t like the show, but I really got what the writers and director were going for, it’s a beautiful show.

Been to the theatre with Kad several times. He’s one of the board’s most informed members. You, on the other hand, are a troll.

Says the one who thinks Prince Faggot is not a political play. I think you need to take theater 101, perhaps more Shakespeare and less Death Becomes Her for you? You have no right to criticize what others enjoy

Also, it sounds like the visual of what we're seeing on stage isn't matching with what the characters are saying. Enough people seem to be confused that the house isn't actually finished yet even if the dialogue suggests otherwise that this is perhaps an incorrect choice made by the creative team. Show us a half done staircase, perhaps some of the railing on one side is "incomplete" to remind the audience that there is still work left to do. As it stands now, visually with what we're seeing onstage, the house seems to be complete enough that the family has already started decorating (example: the table upstage with the flowers.) That to me would indicate that the house is complete.
Sometimes audiences need to be shown things not told, and the script/lyrics are not strong enough to convey the message they are trying to say.
All that to say, I haven't seen the show. I know some of you are going to roll your eyes because I'm sharing my opinion without experiencing it live, and you have every right to do so, I'm not trying to come across as an expert with this show. I'm piecing together what I've been able to see via bootlegs, and commentary from people who have seen it. There is something about this particular show that fascinates me because on paper with the team assembled, it should have been a home run, but so many things went awry that here we are, closing this show at a massive loss. There definitely should be a post mortem about it within the creatives and the excuse cannot be "audiences are bad now!"

I’m sorry, but unless you’ve actually seen the piece, please stop. The entire ending when they are on the steps of the finished ballroom is about how the house isn’t finished. It gets discussed at length with several characters. The audience is well aware the house isn’t finished

I know this is a wild concept for you, but this is a discussion board, so people will discuss. So stop trying to moderate. Thanks! .

I get what you’re saying with the visual contrasting the reality but watching it, it feels like they went out of their way to make it clear to the audience that the house isn’t finished because it gets reiterated several times. this is why I say if you watched it, you might not feel that way.

Based on reaction, enough people who have watched it do not feel that way. I'm glad you got it, that's great, good for you, you're smarter than everyone.

Oh, thank you, O 12/10/25 joiner of musical theater dialectics; we could never have made such an uncannily precise deduction about this ambitious show without interpolated Monarch Notes on its artistic intent.

In all seriousness, can someone please explain what is happening here. Now this person is catfish. Yesterday she was fireplace. Before that, all sorts of names. Does she get banned and then immediately create a new name or is she just completely mentally insane and has seventeen million names floating around?? And why don’t the mods put an end to this once and for all??

I am thinking that we should probably feel a little sorry for this person, who is either nuts or has absolutely no life outside of this board...or both.

I upvote your humanity, but this person is soooo tiresome and obnoxious (I have a long list of blocked users--most of them this one person) that it is hard to keep up the empathy. Not exacly a repsonses-to-Jeremy-O.-Harris-in a-Japanese-prison scenario, but analogous.

It is disturbing. Now this person is creating a new account/profile/username almost daily. We've gotten no response from the moderators here about this.

You just advocated for people losing their job and a show closing.

The house looked empty on stage. But in the film, she filled it with garbage, animals, feces and a pack of feral children. It was moreGrey Gardensthan Barbie Dream House.
A production where the set becomes more and more cluttered till she's wading through garbage could be an effective visual metaphor. I'm thinking of something almost expressionistic."
This is a great point. Anyone who has seen the doc takes away just how cluttered and garbage filled (that dog ****!) the house becomes--I remember a friend saying how she thought it was telling that no one seems interested in looking after the place. I assume for the musical they really wanted that reveal of the empty mansion--and I can understand the reasoning for it, but...
Adam Feldman has a great new podcast with TimeOut, Sitting Ovations, and the first episode is devoted to The Baker's Wife with Stephen Schwartz and director Gordon Greenberg but... I guess I spoke too soon, because in the last few minutes Schwartz is asked if QoV would ever be reworked. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O6550n-GlDQ&list=PL71nON9BFM3hIUZ5bTQbApeF5lKaa7ST_

Humans are hypocritical beings, it's just human nature
This show may have stopped doing the TodayTix rush. There was nothing about it on their page this morning.
Kinda curious why the show hasn’t posted on any of their social media it’s new Dec 21, 2025 closing date. It’s only mentioned (and in small print) on their website.
I think it's just too embarrassing, and they just figure when the theater is dark and locked, people will get the hint....
