Well, this was definitely not worth going out in 100 degrees for."
I think I jumped the gun on this show, but I had nothing else lined up for September and I wasn't paying regular prices for PV. At least I used a $50 Telecharge gift card with a discount code, so I'm not paying a lot to see Alex Brightman and Colin Donnell, lol.

Lol I didn’t know what to expect going in so super low expectations. Just wanted to be entertained for the afternoon. Alex Brightman is the standout and absolutely worth the price of admission. But that’s kind of it. Colin Donnell is a joy to watch on stage but he’s not challenged by the material. And Shaw, could do without him. He bothered me the entire time. I can’t see this show making it to the end of its run. The row next to mine in the mezz was completely empty. And a few rows up, a chunk of rows center mezz, we’re empty as well. Maybe they didn’t want to go out in the heat? Idk but the mezz wasn’t filled like I thought it would be considering it’s like it’s 5th preview.
Kind of wish I spent the extra $20 and saw Grey House one more time before closing but I tried something else.
While I’m at it, this show is attracting the worst of tourists. I should have known this but man were they just awful today. Late comers, crinkly bags, photos of the actors on stage, talking, and the best one.. singing. Shaw sings a bar son and the guys in my row were singing along. The girl next to me and I gave him a glare and he shut up quickly.

Kinda surprised a glare made the guys shut up,but good for you. It's about time people realize they purchase tickets to see a show ,not be the show. Unless of course,it's an interactive audience participation show.

I'd be curious to hear what you think going out in 100 degree is worth. Besides, this is in an air conditioned theater last time I checked.
I’m obviously not perfectpenguin but I can picture what they mean - the getting to and going home from the theatre is where the heat gets you, and while theatres are cooled, the heat’s effects don’t disappear as soon as you hit the AC. You’re basically sitting in your own dampness until you’re not.
For a great show, which this seems to not be, maybe trudging through that heat would be worth it.
Just saw the show tonight. I know every audience seems to love every show these days, but the audience did love it tonight. I admit there were a handful of jokes that went over my head, either because I wasn't alive at the time of Jaws or because I just don't know enough about the movie. (I thought I did)
And that line about Trump....the actor was hardly able to get the line out before the audience cheered. However, there were a sizable amount who sat there stone faced even though they thought the line about "What's next? A movie about dinosaurs!" was the most hilarious thing ever uttered in a Broadway theater.
I can't really say I enjoyed it. I think I would have liked to hear more about the shark malfunctions, and the teenage cast members annoyed Rob Schneider or something like that. Watching 3 people sit and talk for an hour and a half was a stretch. That said, no matter how bad the reviews were, my curiosity in the subject would have made me buy a ticket.
It’s a fine show. Not amazing, not terrible. The acting is the high point, the script does less than desired. The person sitting next to me called it “Waiting For Godot, if Godot was a mechanical shark.” That’s giving the script too much credit, but the comparison of styles seemed apt.
$15 for a cheezy looking shark pen,$20 for a cheap looking water bottle. One would really have to love the show to purchase either. I may be wrong, but thier merch people have over estimated the shows appeal,or the audiences appetite for these items.

yes and there is an anticipated tax rebate that brings down the recoupment number significantly
The *real* capitalization of this show is $5.4 million. It can technically recoup with a tax rebate if it hits around $3.8 million. However, that doesn't mean its capitalization is $3.8 million. Producers are still paying $5.4 million on this show, whether or not there's a tax rebate. The total capitalization is 5.4 million.

That is about right for a play in 2023. I think you're thinking in the musical ballpark. Or maybe it's that you're thinking in the football stadium and not the ballpark, to extend the analogy

The NYS Tax Credit (assuming it is approved) takes approximately 2 years to be processed and returned to the entity. In the meantime, the producers have to raise the entire capitalization and present the recoupment chart to potential investors with the assumption that the tax credit is NOT given --- and getting it will just be gravy 2 years later.
Saw the show tonight and basically liked it. I think it’s at its worst when it deals with the specifics of the filming Jaws - parts of it felt like a recitation of trivia from the Wikipedia page on the film - but gets a lot more interesting when the characters discuss other topics: acting as a profession, their relationships with their fathers, etc.
Really enjoyed Donnell and Shaw. I tend to find Brightman annoying, and this time wasn’t an exception, but he had some good moments as well.
