I was at opening night! I thought he was great. Some very moving stories. The guest was Gloria Steinem.

**sigh**

You said, "yes, we know this" as if everyone knew about this controversy so of course you wouldn't suggest differently.

But in fact you wrote, "Except for one thing- he said that Reagan "laid a wreath on the grave of a Nazi soldier". That struck me funny. I thought "how did something like that ever happen and I don't remember it?""

You also "corrected" me by saying that Reagan had laid the wreath at a memorial rather than a particular grave. But of course I made that very same point myself.

It would be fine not to be aware of the event. Surely many people on this board weren't alive when it happened. However, you can't claim to never have heard of it and then insist of course you heard of it in the same breath. You can't correct someone's facts by repeating the very same fact as if they got it wrong and you got it right.

It's famous enough to have its own Wikipedia page. You said you were so struck by the anecdote and thought, "How did something like that ever happen and I don't remember it?" And then wanted to muddy the waters and suggest Moore was making something up out of whole cloth, rather than getting an unimportant detail wrong. (He laid the wreath at a memorial, not a particular SS soldier's grave.) It was an infamous scandal and Moore's recounting of it as an embarrassment is perfectly on target. Besides, he was there at the time to protest, so kudos to him. The US gov't was ashamed and knew the whole thing never should have happened and are quoted saying so but no one wanted to make it worse by then pulling out. People on the right who dislike Moore's politics love to suggest he plays fast and loose with the facts, as you did here. You say, gee, what else has he exaggerated? Well, given the facts of this one anecdote as related on Wikipedia, nothing of note. Any reasonable person who wondered about that story would read the Wikipedia article (which even confirms Moore was there) and feel he was honest and fair. Maybe the fact that he was actually there led him to think he didn't need to double check the minor detail he got wrong. The world was outraged -- and the world knew Reagan was honoring the Nazi dead and laying a wreath at a memorial. By and large, Moore's story is on target, certainly far more than you were in your disingenuous post. Oh and I'm a registered Republican and voted for Reagan (and Bush in 198THE TERMS OF MY SURRENDER. Facts still matter, though the clock is ticking on that....

I agree with every word of the Hollywood Reporter review: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/review/michael-moore-terms-of-my-surrender-1028191

When I read it, Green's review seems to less about the show itself and is rather a litany of what he doesn't like about Michael Moore and how that is reflected in the show. An odd review, at least to me.

Got to the box office at 3:30 today (Friday, 8/11) and picked up the last rush ticket for tonight's performance. The seat was center orchestra with a perfect view.

the actual performance was standup comedy by Moore. except it wasn't funny. He was trying to pat wealthy, white liberals on the back and make them think that Hillary was perfect and should have won. It was horrifying to watch. The entire show revolved around the idea that democrats are morally superior to republicans and we just have to vote. If that appeals to you, go ahead. But there was very little critical thought. I left after an hour, when Moore faked a presidential run in 2020 with some platform ideas to fix iPhone 7s.

The entire performance was very uncomfortable and forced. There are more entertaining comedians online that are free to watch. Please don't waste your money on this elitist garbage.

Ebizzle.  You joined 3 wks ago.  Nothing wrong w/opposing viewpoints, but you missed the entire "point" of the show imho. But that s a whole different story, which I will not expound on.  To each his own.  Btw, other people on this board, tonight s guest star was Lawrence O'Donnell! (My friends were there).

 I m so jealous!

Well, I was at tonight's show, and I pretty much disagree with everything posted above. I thought Moore did a great job, and there was a great balance of politics, humor, and some fascinating personal stories. I was thoroughly engaged the entire evening. Moore really just stated the facts when it came to Hillary - that she won the popular vote - never once did he say she was perfect. In fact, Hillary was only mentioned a few times. My only complaint is that a one man show clocking in at almost two and a half hours with no intermission is too long. 90-100 minutes would have been an ideal run time for this. All in all, though, this was a great night. For those wondering, I ordered through TDF, and my seat was row D on the right side. Great view.

Um hi, you literally know nothing about me. The fact that I joined three weeks ago means absolutely nothing. I'm allowed to dislike a show and post about it to help other people decide whether or not they want to see it.

Really?

Seeing the show next week, but I would be very surprised to find that Moore is arguing that Hillary Clinton is anything approaching "perfect."  That has never been his position before.  Far from it.  He's portrayed her as too right wing in both economic and foreign policy, too hawkish, more conservative than Obama (whom he is also far from being in the tank for), and Moore initially supported Sanders in 2016.  While he of course eventually supported Clinton against Trump, he was very strongly critical of her campaign, particularly her failure to spend valuable campaign resources and time in Wisconsin and Michigan.

So either Moore completely "Hillary-washes" himself in this show (which should prove extremely unconvincing to anyone who knows anything about Moore), or perhaps, ebizzle, you are simply wrong about this.

what?! IMO thinking Hillary should have won (and as he says, she did win, Trump just won the EC) is probably a pre-requisite to buying a ticket! He doesn't need to spend much time convincing his audience!

@henrikriegerman he absolutely does. He loses the populist persona that I was expecting to see and was the reason that I purchased a ticket to the show. Some reviews point this out at well. The show begins with him screaming "how the **** did this happen? She should have been president! She won by 3 million votes!" I was really expecting a more critical approach than that but that narrative continued. Especially how he kept addressing the audience as "we" about democrats, with no criticism at all of the Democratic Party.

That was definitely not the narrative at all...

Um, hi. Yes of course you're allowed to "dislike" any show.  however that doesn't mean that you're allowed to lie and/or completely make **** up that simply doesn't happen in the show you are trashing.

Ebizzle said that he walked out of the show after one hour, so you can take his/her "review" with a huuuuuge grain of salt, because the second half ties it all together.  And it ' s NOT a political lecture, but part partisan politics, part comedy, part interesting autobiography, part a call to activism in one s own small way, and to try to get people to step out of your comfort zone.  This theme could apply to anything, not just politics.  Oh, and the "policemen" are The BOMB!!

My thought is that if you purchased a ticket, you should know what his stance is on the issues. You should know what you are in for (even if you are comped in!)

No, he did not make Hillary out to be perfect. As stated above he just delivered the facts about the election. That was all of about 10 minutes.

He spoke to the audience he knew was in attendence. I am not wealthy and white and I got it.  I felt henwas addresing us more as human beings who should stand up for what believe. Get out and do something if you feel strongly about something. Get out of your comfort zone.

Just give the world Love.

Seen he's had Bill Maher, Arianna Huffington and Mark Ruffalo there recently - all sound like great guests! Would've loved to have been there for those performances.

If you can do it in a way that's hilarious and entertaining, then sure  I'm guessing that you can't.  We're familiar with your previous work

Today's guest was Hasan Minhaj!

I had a great time at the show — it's not all a liberal love-fest and it's also not overwhelmingly heavy either. I can think of a few friends off the top of my head who would really benefit from going. They're the type who voted for Clinton, hate Trump, but don't keep up with the news anymore or participate in much activism.
