I've been assuming there's an extension built in so they could at least get 6 months on Broadway if the sales are there? But if they can't consistently crack a million a week then they'll start bleeding money quickly.
If they gross an average of $1.5 mil a week then they could recoup in 19 weeks. But that would require them to have an average ticket price of about $135 - and last week they averaged $74, which is very poor by modern Broadway standards. If their weekly average gross is under a mil, then they'll never make a penny.
Which investor pool benefits from licensing and touring? (aka, the parent company.) Broadway, or off-Broadway, or London?

They could have done that successfully without a Broadway run."
TBH, I think it'd really hit in the Non-Equity Tour markets without this. Menopause The Musical style."
Totally, this transfer was completely unnecessary.

But I mean, who am I to judge? Marla and Connie are getting money in their pockets from rich people they conned into doing this, maybe a couple Tony Noms. Good for them. Get your coin, girls.

They only get big coins if this breaks 1 mill a week which it isn’t. The licensing of the catalogue must be expensive. Best Book is a toss up between this and Schmigadoon.

Financially, this production never made sense in the St. James and the licensing / tour argument also didn’t really make sense- it had a lengthy (though ultimately unprofitable) off Broadway run and international productions already. It was already primed to have a long licensing life.
It’ll pick up some Tony nods easily but I really don’t see it winning much- book and Best Actress seem like the best bets there but I wouldn’t be putting money on either as of now.

Meh, they still get their pay for acting and being the creatives and get to say they opened their own show on Broadway. Something very few can say.

IF the Tonys are going to give it a win, Book does feel like the best option. It's funny and creative. I think Actress is still Caissie vs Lea.
But they could also give TWO STRANGERS Book + Musical, and then LOST BOYS Score + some tech wins. And then revivals take most of the other categories.
As for noms, I think it will be tough to see which way the wind is blowing for most of the new musicals. Titanique could get a bunch of Acting noms, or it could get zero. CATS is in a similar boat with all those standout supporting players.

The achievement is amazing. The ego of moving a show to Broadway after it didn’t recoup Off Broadway after 3 years is choice.

Reading these reviews, while there are a few negative ones, many of the positives reviews are raves. Lots of pull quotes. It can only help future licensing. But with business across BWay so sluggish - no show is difficult to buy tickets for - they will struggle unless anyone actually reads reviews other than us. If they do these reviews are pretty good and will draw folks looking for a laugh.

The Featured categories are going to be a grudge match this year. I think CATS has at least two guaranteed in Andre de Shields and “Tempress” Chasity Moore, and I could argue Sydney Harcourt as a possibility. TITANIQUE will have probably one guarantee in Marla in leading (an advantage over CATS) and two possible in Jim Parsons and Layton Williams.

Lol uh oh. If you sort by NEWEST all the reviews are being consolidated as show entries. Maybe they have a new team member steering the ship tonight? Haha

I would also love to see Emma Sofia nominated. So many good performances in that cast.

Yet again, Sara Holdren’s review reigns supreme for me. I love to see that she can completely see where shows are coming from. For a critic who is often deeply philosophical she seemed fully on board for the journey of this one and eee she value in it.
I know this show has a steep hill to climb but boy am I rooting for it to succeed!

DTLI Consensus: With its increasing deliriousness and vocal powerhouses, the Celine camp-fest is just as much of a hoot uptown... but is Broadway really the right fit for it?
7 positive, 6 mixed (including the NYT), 2 negative.

Given that Mean Girls couldn't win Book in a similarly weak season, I have a hard time seeing Titaníque faring better.

Is this a fairly large show?? A 995K weekly nut seems like A LOT for an off-broadway transfer of a parody. Is that figure mostly song royalties?

This and Rocky on a two show day with an edible could cure a sick, gay Victorian child.
May it have a healthy run.

I second this! When I was thinking of performers from CATS I wanted nominated, she was right there with Andre, Tempress, and Sydney!

It has a 19-piece orchestra (the minimum for the house it is playing in) and a cast of 17.

1 Minute Critic: ‘Titaníque’ arrives on Broadway bedazzled, afloat & kooky-krazy as ever
4 out of 5 stars
Titaníque arrives on Broadway bedazzled and kooky-krazy, but those who caught it Off-Broadway may wonder what the bigger stage actually adds. Marla Mindelle is as sharp as ever, and Deborah Cox belting "All By Myself" alone is worth the price of a Broadway ticket. Read our full review at https://1minutecritic.com/titanique-broadway-review/

Did this show get good reviews because it’s actually good? Or did the critics just kinda say… well… this season on Bway is kinda crappy so… let’s throw them a bone?
I doubt critics would do this, right?

"Good" is so taste specific. Titanique is a smart, fun, scrappy show. Is it what we traditionally see on Broadway? That's another topic. Does the show warrant a Broadway bow or was a theater just open? I believe it's the latter. I think critics are trying not to pan it because it's entertaining, but no one really asked for it and if the season wasn't so weak it would not have gotten a house.
