Hah...The only reason that i know that name was cuz he sang a bunch of songs on the Goofy Movie soundtrack, which everyone my age knows off by heart.

Well, there's one answer to a "whatever happened to?" trivia question that had been floating around for a while.
Don't know anything about any Goofy movie, but Campbell was a well-known young up-and-coming R&B singer back in the late 80s/ early 90s (discovered by and a real favorite of Quincy Jones') until a mini-scandal ended his recording career and he disappeared (hence I guess explaining him doing voice over work in cartoons).
I wish him well on Broadway.
What was the scandal? I've never heard of this person.
He had a really good voice but he seemed a bit shy and laid-back. Hopefully he has grown to a point where he can portray Seaweed from an acting standpoint. I know he can do it from a singing standpoint.

Um........ let's just say that like George Michael, Tevin should stay away from undercover cops............
Tevin Campbell is incredibly talented. His star was definitely on the rise until he was arrested for soliciting sex from a male prostitute. He was only 20 or so at the time. He publicly came out after that and I haven't heard much about him since. But he's been championed by everyone from Quincy Jones to Prince.
I hope he does well in Hairspray. He has a gorgeous voice.
The BlackStripe News on Tevin Campbell
if we listen to each other's heart
we'll find we're never too far apart
and maybe love is the reason why
for the first time ever we're seeing it eye to eye
hehe i didn't even have to look up the lyrics
I wish Tevin Campbell well, but will REALLY miss Chester Gregory in the role. It was a role he was born to play (though people said the same thing about him playing Jackie Wilson in the Jackie Wilson story). Look forward to seeing Chester in "Tarzan" though! He's incredible!
Zep,
I could do that entire soundtrack off by heart...and I know I'm not alone.
Also...why the hell haven't they gotten Toronto's Seaweed to reprise the role again. Sean was AMAZING beyond belief.

I used to love his song with Prince "Round & Round" (I think that's what it was called)!

"Round and Round" was the main hook for Missy Elliot's "Work It." Every single time the Missy song came on, I'd think of Tevin.

that cracks me up since I only remember him from a guest spot on Fresh Prince, he sang at Ashley's birthday party. Guess that makes me a little older than you. :) I'd never heard about the 'whatever happened to' until now... and I'm totally interested to see him in this role!
Can we taaaaaaaaaaaaalk for a minute, girl I want .. to know.. your name.
Sigh I own his greatest hits cd :[
Whoo hoo! I love Tevin, he definitely has the voice for Broadway!
One of the little boys I work with has a severe Disney addiction...lol. I know the Goofy Movie by heart and didn't realize that was Tevin.
Sadly, joliz, I also own his Greatest Hits CD and I remember as a recording artist on the radio, not from a Disney soundtrack!
I think when Usher first started out he was the second generation Tevin Campbell.
I think his voice is fine for the part, I just wonder about the dancing required for the role.
I own a few of his cd's along with the Quncey Jones cd he is on. He has a wonderful voice. Ashame about the cop incident. He has come out and said that he is bi-curious. Had a neighbor who knew him and said he was a good guy. I wish him well on Broadway and look forward to reading reviews of his performance here. If he is still in the show in May, I might just have to grab a ticket and see him. He's "Come Back to the World"!

Wow! How exciting! Tevin has an amazing voice and he's pretty darn sexy. I remember the first time I heard his debut single, 'Tell Me What You Want Me To Do', it was massive in America. He was regarded as the new Michael Jackson, I think he was Prince's little protege.
Good luck to him.
