I know what you mean. This is very frustrating! I'm really impatient! I NEED the new video now!

I loved this show it was so much fun(and im 27 years old and have been working in theatre as a dancer since 16)
This show is going to have great appeal on Broadway,All the people aound that keep bashing the show and hoping it bombs(before even watching it?) are in for shock.
good luck on broadway LB
Namo i love u but we get it already....you don't like Madonna
Anyone else love the announcement at the beginning of the show?
"Hey guys, can I have a sec? This won't take long. So, okay, the show's about to start, and it would be totally helpful if you could turn off cell phones, Sidekicks, you get it? Oh, and ditto for no-go on cameras or video -- if anything shows up on YouTube, I am going to come after you and I am so not kidding right now. The show is conducted by James Something-or-Other, who, P.S., is totally hot in a John-Mayer-scruffy-write-you-songs sort of way. Have fun!" Updated On: 2/18/07 at 01:26 AM

This brings up something I've been wondering about. From what I've heard the Ireland number is hilarious (including a line that goes something like "and we'll dance without moving our arms") and there's also a Riverdance parody elsewhere in the show.
Has this material been part of the show throughout its development? If not, does anyone think it's been put in there deliberately to poke fun at "The Pirate Queen"? I realize that only the writers and producers could really answer that, but I'm curious to hear the impressions of people who've been following LB's development.

Ireland was added less than a year ago -- maybe eight or nine months or so? -- but I'm pretty sure that they're not poking fun at anything besides Riverdance and Michael Flatley in the dancey bit! I'm not sure what the Pirate Queen timeline was -- had anyone seen it by the middle of last year? I remember thinking of it, until quite recently, as "that new thing by the Les Miz guys that has pirates in." (And I still want to see it, no matter how many bad things I've heard about it. I love pirates, and they should be on stage far more often than they are.)

I just got back from the show, and it was FABULOUS. So much fun, so well done, a lot better than I ever expected. The house looked almost entirely full except for a few seats on the sides of the balcony. I think this show is going to do really well on Broadway, at least for quite a while. The energy was so high and I would absolutely go see it again. Too bad I'm not in the Bay Area permanently! I won't give a full review, but if you have any questions about what the show is like now, I'd be happy to answer!

My guess is that NY audiences will assume this is a spoof on Pirate Queen. Even if it wasn't planned, I think it's a hysterical coincidence. I haven't seen the LB movie recently. Did that version of Paulette have an obession with Ireland?
Pirate Queen was workshopped in Ireland. Its producers have said they spent two years on it prior to coming to Chicago. By the middle of last year I've heard they were doing run throughs. That doesn't mean anyone working on Legally Blonde would have even been aware of it.

No matter what, it will be worth seeing just to watch Stephanie Block and Hadley Fraser. Unfortunately pirates should have been on stage far more often than they were in The Pirate Queen itself, at least as it was done in Chicago. There just wasn't any swashbuckling to be had. I'm hoping this has been rectified for NY. Reportedly the show has been extensively rewritten.

TechEverlasting, in the Legally Blonde film, Paulette has no obsession what-so-ever with Ireland. Haha, it's not even mentioned in the film. It was added in for the musical
I think whether or not NY theatregoers will assume it's a PQ spoof will depend a lot on whether or not PQ is a hit. If it hits big enough to become a regional pop culture icon (even for a little while), then you might very well be right! But if it flies below the radar, I don't think it will occur to that many people.
Especially since one of the bigger moments of the dance number includes everyone striking the signature Flatley "Lord of the Dance" pose, hehe.

I can't believe half this thread is yet another "obsession with understudies" thread this board is so famous for. Not why I'm posting, Carryme, Orfeh not only *should* have that bow, but will be keeping it. I don't know why you keep alluding to the contrary but she's the third billed star of the show and the bows are in the exact right order where the three leads are concerned. The two times I saw it, it was actually uncomfortable to hear the crowd get SO much less enthusiastic for Rupert after virtual mayhem for Orfeh. I'm also sure, barring an emergency, Andy Karl will not be first in line to go on for Rupert. Besides, he's pretty much indispensible as Kyle. And there's my 2 cents.
Al Dente, I am not saying that she doesn't deserve it. I am saying that in the past, they have gone with prestige over talent or even size of the role. Rita Gardner, while good in Wedding Singer, didn't deserve third bow over Amy Spanger or many of the other leads for that matter. I think that Jerry mitchell realized his mistake and changed the bows, and yes, it was apparent how the applause was louder for ORfeh. Then again, Paulette is a likeable character with memorable songs and lines and Callahan is the villain of the show...I was just saying it was kind of a slap in the face to Rupert, not that I disagreed with it.

Actually Al Dente, Michael Rupert is the second billed person in LEGALLY BLONDE. Under Actors Equity Contract when it states "and John Doe" after the top billed star (or stars) as it did with both Rita Gardner in The Wedding Singer or with Joel Grey in Wicked, then they become the next billed. And since both Christian Borle and Orfeh are under Laura Bell Bundy's name, that would make them both behind Rupert.
Also, the bow order is worked out in the contract before production even starts, so Jerry Mitchell cannot change the order unless they either renegotiate Rupert's contract or he would have to give his permission to change it.
