I had a feeling Salesman was going to have someone else accept the Revival Tony since nobody named Scott Rudin in their speeches all night.

Youre just mad the show you liked more didnt win (...this award. Its technical elements WERE actually recognized by the Tony folks)."
I would never call you names to make a statement, love. In fact, I do think Ragtime is a much much more polished production in all aspects.
But I don't think it's silly for the voters to expect fresh takes if they reward the tried and true. That's my opinion.

It was a perfect representation of how Broadway doesn't know what it needs most nowadays. This is why most new musicals will be closing within months, the edge is gone."
I understand all the reasons why CATS is more deserving in terms of REVIVING a show given the creativity, but its lazy and silly to now pretend that RAGTIME is some unworthy unloved flop.
What ignorance, as if CATS means theres no place for anything else on Broadway?
I might remind you that it opened at City Centers right when this country was descending into fascist madness, and that these actors singing these lyrics was cathartic heaven in that moment. I might also remind you that the show has been mostly sold out from the jump, a monster hit. Grow up.

This production of Ragtime (which is a good show) is lazy and does nothing to elevate the original material. In fact, it felt like a watered down version (albeit with some great performances) moved from the Lyric to the Beaumont. Cathartic though the lyrics may be, the revival itself of not groundbreaking and didn’t deserve the award."
This is a reasoned and certainly valid opinion re Ragtime-- and I actually agree with it. I enjoyed Ragtime overall much more than CATS, but thats because the underlying material is so much stronger (imho). But earlier you, Princeton, said Ragtime won because of whiny white people, so really, you've removed yourself from this conversation as far as I'm concerned."
I was referring to the characters. I’ve always seen it as a white savior musical. But that’s just me.
Though, I’m not familiar with who actually votes for these awards. I’m gonna guess it's bunch of white people? I’d be pleased to find out I’m wrong.

I know it’s not fair but this Book of Mormon number was better than all the new musicals

I agree with everything in this paragraph. This particular revival might as well stayed at the City Center and still would be a financial success as a concert. Only exceptional vocal talents of the main cast had saved it. This productions has nferior set design and absent direction with no new elements worthy of a revival. But whatever,. At least Joshua Henry will finally get his Tony.

Book of Mormon question - how do the Orlando jokes read since DeSantis became governor? For that matter, how did they read after the Pulse shooting in 2016?

Nah, goes to show that some people have different preferences than we do. My favorite this year is Lost Boys, but I think Schmigadoon is likely to win Best Musical. And that doesn't reflect poorly on me or on the Tony voters. Big deal.

It's their attempt to make it seem like an 80s musical with rock music. (hint: it's not. this is the only song that remotely comes close). The score and band are ridiculously wrong for the material

Rachel Ziegler has a very nice voice, but I don't understand the purpose of this segment. Show extended footage, clips, quotes, anything? Invite the original cast on stage? Anything?

Orlando has long been a Liberal Stalwart of Florida. I also don't understand the relevance of Pulse to BOM use of Orlando...

Chicago and BOM were there to sell tickets, but its 1050pm why am I listening to Rachel Zegler scream through A Chorus Line? To what end? (they didnt even mention that she will be back on that stage next year thanks to Evita...)

Yep, truly so pathetic like Ragtime was this garbage, cheap ass production they just threw together in a week? The voters and the majority of America gave it acclaim because it was earned. The Tony Awards are a giant commercial and the majority of America prefer Ragtime. That's been obvious by the grosses compared to the other revivals for many months.
Don't see it, call it "simple" or "lazy". Lie to yourself. Nobody cares anymore.

No nod to Marin Mazzie? Classy.
come fall, this production will be gone and soon forgotten. But years from now, much like Sunset Boulevard last year, people will remember what Cats did to elevate the original material.
