Congrats to Alden Ehrenreich--I thought this was going to Chris Abbott. I thought Metcalf was more than good, but it was Lane and Abbott who stood out as next level. Again no slight to Ehrenreich who was of course great- but as he mentions Linda Emond, I am reminded of the snub of the season.
THIS PACING IS SO WEIRD. All thats left now are Best Actor and Best Actress in a musical which are hardly competitive? Aside from musical which feels like it could go any of two to three ways...

i wish. I doubt the show could afford whatever she would want in terms of a salary. Maybe her daughter, Willow?"
Her daughter Willow is a 15 year old teenager. Where in CHICAGO does she fit?!Tell us. 🤣"

The most entertaining thing about this entire thread is witnessing Sutton “America’s Sweetheart” Ross get meaner (and drunker) in real time!

WTF was that disaster from LOST BOYS!?!?

Lost Boys = a phenomenal Tony performance from a mediocre show. Do they do that slow down effect in the show or was that for TV? It was brilliant.

I don’t know if I understood this performance. Where are the vampires? Are they the ones in the band?

I might remind you that it opened at City Centers right when this country was descending into fascist madness, and that these actors singing these lyrics was cathartic heaven in that moment. I might also remind you that the show has been mostly sold out from the jump, a monster hit. Grow up.
100%
Incredible performance by The Lost Boys cast. Coolest new musical of the year with two newly minted Tony Award Winners!

So glad "Ragtime" won. Saw the original production and it stayed with me for a long time. Still one of the most stunning opening numbers I have seen in a show. JMO

I can't imagine The Lost Boys sold any tickets from that, specifically, but their cast has done a very good job tonight selling their show.

Disappointed Revival didn’t go to Jellicle, but let’s not act like this was a rejection of the production. It took Costume, Choreo, and most importantly Direction, signaling a pretty clear embrace of the production and its concepts. Ragtime getting Revival feels like a compromise win, considering its only creative win was (somewhat arbitrarily) sound design. They are both strong and well-received productions; it seems silly to fight over it when both are winners tonight

The show that sold the most tickets tonight from the performance segments was Chicago lol - and that about sums up this season of commercial musicals on Broadway.

Blaxx you can walk it back, I guess, but the idea that Bway doesnt know what its doing by recognizing Ragtime is a patently silly comment since Broadway producers would LOVE to have six Ragtimes running every year--sold out houses, beloved brilliant actors, a beautiful message, etc.
Youre just mad the show you liked more didnt win (...this award. Its technical elements WERE actually recognized by the Tony folks).

This production of Ragtime left me cold. The direction made the problems in the book much more glaring that they already were in the original production. It was a good revival for checking all the boxes, but it feels much more superficial/fluffy than Cats despite the topics it engages with.

I would almost agree, I just think that sales wise, Cats could have really benefited from that win. I'm not sure if it would have been enough to save it, but could've helped.

It was a perfect representation of how Broadway doesn't know what it needs most nowadays. This is why most new musicals will be closing within months, the edge is gone."
I understand all the reasons why CATS is more deserving in terms of REVIVING a show given the creativity, but its lazy and silly to now pretend that RAGTIME is some unworthy unloved flop.
What ignorance, as if CATS means theres no place for anything else on Broadway?

This production of Ragtime (which is a good show) is lazy and does nothing to elevate the original material. In fact, it felt like a watered down version (albeit with some great performances) moved from the Lyric to the Beaumont. Cathartic though the lyrics may be, the revival itself of not groundbreaking and didn’t deserve the award.

I feel like for a show to be worthy of Best Revival there's an imperative to not just be an inferior version of the original production which from all I hear about Ragtime is that is all this production is. That's not to say there's not good performances in it, but that's not what Best Revival is rewarding.

This is a reasoned and certainly valid opinion re Ragtime-- and I actually agree with it. I enjoyed Ragtime overall much more than CATS, but thats because the underlying material is so much stronger (imho). But earlier you, Princeton, said Ragtime won because of whiny white people, so really, you've removed yourself from this conversation as far as I'm concerned.
